I'm going to be teaching in Hwaseong soon so I'm exploring my options for living arrangements still. I plan on taking a trip weekend after this and checking out some areas.

I was wondering though if there are any Filipino areas in Suwon or nearby? Does one have to live near Songtan to run into Filipino residents.

Since my wife is a Filipina I was hoping to be somewhat near a community she can socialize with when she gets here in a couple of months. Both churches I know with Filipino services are far away in Seoul.

That said any foreign community is fine I suppose. Especially if there is one in any section of Suwon. I'm not incredibly eager to live near the military base but man... some English or non-Koreans nearby to get a pint with would be nice.

A group of uncontacted indigenous Filipinos were spotted by plane in a remote part of the Suwon environs last month, according to Survival International. The region is threatened by illegal soju distillation. "It is absurd to say there are uncontacted peoples when no one has seen them," said Oh, Yu Suk, chairman of Suwon public relations.

There are a bunch of them that go to Mass at the Namun Catholic church at 2:30 on Sunday afternoons.

It is on the west side of PalDalSan on a side street.

Do not confuse it with the English service at the baptist Church on the main road between Suwon station and Namun.

There is also a Pinoy store on the 11-1 bus route a bit farther (3-4km) up the road from the immigration office going away from Suwon station.
