Jongdongjin on the East Coast. It's very beautiful, but maybe it's better in the summer. It takes about three hours to get their from Seoul if you have a car, and you can easily hop over to Seoraksan after you're done. It might be better for a weekend trip.
I went there a week ago and had a great time. The beach was cold, but the view was incredible and where else can you see a full-sized cruiseship on top of a mountain with several restaurants and an aquarium inside.
Also, the traditional Korean village in Suwon is quite interesting. I had a good time there. |

Chuncheon is good for a day. Play on the four-wheelers and stuff yourself with dakgalbi when you're done. |

Chuncheon is a really nice town---not really a day trip from most places---and you can make a weekend out of it.
From Seoul or Gyeonggi you could go to Namhansanseong in Seongnam, a mountain fortress that you can hike around. Lots of gates, temples, and historical sites.
Also from Seoul are the islands off of Incheon. Here's a set of photos on a few of the more obscure ones: http://www.flickr.com/photos/themarmaladecat/sets/72157600310790277/ |

Went to Tanyang last year, beautiful scenery. It was 4-5 hours drive in traffic, and was part of a 3 day visit to a few different cities to visit friends.
Went to really deep cave which had a 45min walk through some narrow metal stairs. Awesome site.
Went quad biking and passenger on a paraglider. I was assured that after a few more flights/lessons that I could fly solo .
Hopefully get more time this year, to see some beautiful sites in Korea. |

I agree, the drive out the the east coast is better done if you have your own transportation and if it is done in the summer. The mountains out there are really nice as well as the people.
Sokcho is nice, as well as Soraksan. Sunrise on the East Sea is beautiful with Soraksan behind you.
You can rent a fishingboat for about 100,000 for a few hours, with a fisherman, who baits your rod and you can fish right off the side of the boat. Pretty fun. |

It's in one of my Sogang books. 2B maybe? Ahhh, yes, Andy and his pals go to the festival.
Nami Island is a cute day trip if you're in a couple. Suwon is nice. Soraksan is best for an overnighter, I think. |
