cannon ixus series (but i have one, just like spliff has a finepix)

your best bet is to go into yongsan twice. Go in one day with a pen and paper, look at everything, don't look at prices, play around with the cameras, find models that are right for you, if you can't figure out how to use it within 5 min forget it. but whatever you do don't buy that first day no matter what the deal.

go home look at reviews for the ones you liked, think about things like the amount of noise in the photos (don't get pentax), are you going to be taking night or day photos (night finepix/day cannon), heavy duty (if so maybe olympus?) what extra features do you need, are you going to be taking mainly pub photos (cheap), hiking photos (good zoom + heavy duty), or family/friends photos (face recognition).

once you have worked out the good/bad points of the cameras you liked pick one and repost (if you want).

then go and buy, don't be afraid of spending an extra 50,000 won if you like the camera.

sorry if this seems a lot of work but it sucks buying a camera that you just don't like using, or is a good camera but doesn't suit your needs

hope this helps

I have Fuji Finepix F59fd.

I bought on Amazon for $225.

They are running in the high 300,000w almost 400,000w range over here.

The Finepix F100fd was just released.

I think the 100 is the same camera with more zoom.

You will read some stuff about the f50 having less than superior resolution
when compared to the F30/31, this is true. However the advantage of
cropping from a 12 meg resolution shot outweighs that very minor
resolution difference. The F30/31 aren't available anymore.

When comparing the F50 to other cameras available in this category
today the F50fd is a superior camera.

Also consider Canon Coolpix SD800/850/900 or the G9.

Also consider Nikon S600 S550

Also consider the Panasonic Lumix FX55 FX100 LX1 LX2

First, we really need to know what kind of pictures you'll be taking to give the best recommendation. Indoor/outdoor, low light or not, macro, distant subjects, moving subjects blah blah blah, and which pictures it's most important to have turn out well.

For general multi-purpose the canon powershot series (main one out right now is the 720) is usually a little better bet than the fuji finepix. Fuji tends to do better in low light though.

I agree it would be best to go and try out a bunch of cameras. Don't bring money so you won't be tempted to buy. Go home and look at reviews of the ones you liked. dpreview.com is a great site but doesn't review a lot of compacts.

Here's my recommendation for a "point and shoot."

I'm a fan of the ol' model 1911 .45 myself:
