I am living in Ulsan and I need to get a korean driver's license. I have to take all the tests written, course and road. I can take an English written test at the school but they say they do not have any study books in English. Do any of you know where I can get an English study book? I want to make sure I pass on my first attempt and not waste my time or money. |

the driving school may have one, or the place where you take your test really should. if all else fails, come to busan and go to the nambu test centre near kyungsung university and get one from there. thats where i got mine. really though the place where you go to get your license or should have one. |

Do you already have a license? Or is this your first time driving?
If you have already driven, you may just want to guess. That's what I did. There were two really weird questions, one about parking or businesses near school or something, and the other about the proper way to change lane (look first and then turn signal or vice versa) and some REALLY wonky English, but otherwise, it's pretty straightforward and the RULES are not much different than anywhere else in the world.
The execution of those rules, now, that's another story... |

Basically I am looking for either a way to get a copy of the manual mailed to my house or a way to study for the test online. I have heard they have the korean version of the manual online. |

Yeah, that's right. I used common knowledge and previous experience to answer the questions. Took me about 10 minutes to complete the test with a 90% correct rate. I never looked at any book prior to taking it. |

I took the test at the driving center in Gimpo.
I had to forfeit my license from the States. The test here was strange. It was in English for me, but the way that the English was written was like being in the Twilight Zone, or listening to a skipping cd or something like that. It was really confusing.
Because it was so confusing, I scored a 55%, but still managed to pass??????
If your school is requesting that you get a drivers license here, they should be paying for it and not you.
Also, I didn't have to take any drivers test here at all. I just walked in, gave them a photo of me, took the computer test, did an eye exam, then they gave me a license. My boss payed the 17,000 won and that was it. |

I had to give my US license up, too. Now it's expired and I'm sure as hell not going back when contract is over to pick it up. You can't exchange a Korean driver's license for a US one, so I'll just keep the Korean one and get another. (In fact, I'm pretty sure they AREN'T supposed to take your US license and it's just another case of Koreans being clueless.) |

I gave up my revoked U.S. license (my state revokes if you are not an insured driver). I'm pretty sure that they are supposed to take your license from the U.S. It's not a big deal though, you can trade your Korean one in for your U.S. one upon leaving if you choose. |
