Ok, my boss set me up a cell phone plan when I first started working. I lost my first phone and he got me a new one which was nice. But the first month I had to pay $250 something because he said I had made one long distance call. BS...I used a calling card for calling home a couple of times. Now every month since has been well over $100 or 100,00 won. IOt's under his wife's name so it's very hard for me to check on it and my boss offers no help and gets upset and even referred to me as a trouble maker today halfway jokingly. A co teacher is helping me but my boss refuses to let me take his wife's information home with me so I can talk with them myself while not at the school. That part is very fishy to me. I think I am poaying his wife's bill to be honest. It's fucking bullshit. He said I talked 711 minutes last month yet I only called one person and only made short calls maybe once very other day. He tells me I can't cancel the phone contract because it's a 6 month plan and I still have three more months. Has anyone else ever had something similar happen to them?

Is he withholding pay? If so, you might have a hard time. I flat refused to pay any sort of school bill until they showed me a copy of it.

You mean a copy of the phone bill? He says it is very difficult to get the phone bill because he would have to go to the main office in another city. Yeah, he will eventually take it from my pay if I don't pay the bill on my own. What should I do?

BS .. He can have it mailed to him or emailed to him. Otherwise how does he know how much it is. They can even point out the long distance charges. Still I am not sure if he is ripping you off. You may be making monthly payments on the phone itself.

Yeah, your boss is full of shit. My bill goes straight to my Samsung card and they still mail it to me every month.

Demand to see the bill. Say you lost a phone number or something, if you have to.

OP, did you buy the phone?

And are the bills each month only directed towards phone service?

But that still doesn't make sense especially considering you paid 250,000 wom for the first mont and now over a 100,000 this month!

If what your saying is true, you're getting totally screwed!

It's unbeleivable actually that your boss would have the gaul to try this on you.

I dodn't think the stories of Korean bosses ripping off teachers could get any lower, but "ding ding" it just did.

Why on Earth would anyone believe "It's very difficult to get the bill"? If it's so difficult, how did the cretin know how much it is?

Anyway, I'm not surprised at all by the gall of the boss. If it relates to money, then don't be shocked by the worst mismanagement and dishonesty in any hagweon.

I just asked my boss again. He told me that his wife would have to visit the office in person to get a copy of the phone records.

My co teacher also just told me that she has to visit in person to get the records of phone calls. Are they both lying to me or something? I feel like I'm in the twighlight zone.

I have my bill, but it just says 79,000 won for calling charges without any calling records. I know something is very wrong here but I don't want to alientae evryone at my work place.

Even my Korean GF says my phone bill is very odd and she told me not to trust my bosses because it is very suspicious.

I hate to say it, but you can rarely trust your Korean coworkers.

A tactful way to handle this would be to tell your boss you think the phone company is ripping him off, and he should refuse to pay. Of course it's not his money so he won't care, but there really isn't anything legal anyone can do to you except for disable your phone service.

The boss is a liar. My phone bill comes straight to me. That's because I had the foresight to set the account up myself. It's for a landline (aka housephone). My cellphone is a prepaid one in my name so I don't have to worry about lies about the bills for that either.

Yes, the coteacher is lying to you. Your Korean coworkers at a hagweon will never tell you something that contradicts what the boss says. That is the only sure thing in the hagweon environment.

Why not if they're stealing from you?
