|
|
Hi,
I tried to search but I got about a million unrelated results.
Here's my q, I was told I need to get a medical check-up for my new job (ps position), and I must bring it with me on March 3 when I start.
THATS IT. What exactly do I need to get from the doctor? (I wasn;t given a form or anything, just that simple instruction). Additionally, can I go to any doctor in Korea or do I have to go to a special one? If that's the case, does anyone know a place in the Suwon area (the closer to Suwon station the better).
Finally, is it reasonable for me to ask the school to reimburse the cost of said medical checkup?
Thanks in advance |

I did a medical check-up in Korea at a local doctor. They have a standard form on hand. It was about 10,000 won for the checkup and the doctor filling out the form. They didn't have the stuff needed for all of the tests though, since it was a doctor's office instead of a hospital. |

Even though all the tests weren't done, was the check-up accepted? |

Before I submitted the form I decided not to take the job, so I'm not sure if they would have accepted it. |

I went to the hospital the other day and it seems that the doctors don't have any clue as to what to check for.
Can someone please list everything the doctor is supposed to check? The doctors need to know exactly what to look for in the blood and drug test.
Better yet, if anyone knows of a form i can print off and show the doctor it will make things much easier. |

Indeed, I'm pretty sure my doc who most likely speaks broken English, will be as clueless as I am about what is required. So if anyone has a link, it'd be much appreciated. |

The following is what the regulations say regarding the medical exam:
Quote: |
Recruitment health exam MUST include TBPE test(tests for drug abuse), cannabinoid test(tests for Marijuana), and HIV test (tests for AIDS) results |
The same in Korean, if you want to print it out and take it to the doctor so he'll know exactly what Immi requires:
Quote: |
채용신체검사서 검사항목에 마약복용 여부 확인을 위한 TBPE검사, 카나비노이드(마리화나)검사 및 에이즈 감염 여부 확인을 위한 HIV 검사는 필수 항목임 |

Thanks for the replies.
Neither of those forms mention anything about drug testing or HIV testing? I suppose I could ask the doc to do those tests too and put the results under "other"?
Would I need to go to a hospital for this (seems like the average doc wouldn;t have the means to test for all this? am I mistaken?)
If so, does anyone know of a place to go in Suwon?
Cheers |

I just had mine done yesterday for a GEPIK school. I've been at the school since December and they've asked for it twice since then, to which my response both times has been, "no problem, tell me exactly what you want." Never having received an answer they never received my medical information. Yesterday they enlisted my wrangler to take me to the hospital to get it done. I'm not convinced he knew what I needed either. Nevertheless, 15 minutes and 12,000 won later I was finished. It was three things for me, I peed on a tri-colored strip of paper which was then disinterestedly glanced at by a doctor and thrown away, I got my chest x-rayed, and then had some blood drawn for what I was led to believe is an HIV test. That's it. Will it fly? Time will tell. |

12000 won? Where did you get this done? I was quoted 100,000 won from the hospital to do blood and urine tests. And they still didn't know what to check for. |

I think I'll just take your approach. "Tell me exactly what you want." Ball's back in your court baby! |

Never go and get anything done at a hospital, except complex surgery. There is always a clinic that specializes in something and will do it for 1/4 the cost.
Case in point. I went to a hospital for a sore throat. I paid 55,000 won .They gave me two weeks medicine. The symptoms did not go away. After my co-teacher who finally felt sorry for me took me to her clinic/doctor. I paid 3 ,000 and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. one week of medication and I was healthy again. |

Mine was done in Yangpyeong, probably not the most convenient location for most people. I can't believe cost would vary so greatly though. One thing that may have contributed to the lower cost is the health insurance booklet which was recently issued to me. Do you have yours?
It was hard to get much of an answer from anyone about anything that was going on. In fact, while I'm nearly positive the blood test was for HIV, I honestly have no idea what was/is being checked for with the urine and x-ray. As I briefly mentioned, I peed on a strip of paper, none of the colors changed, the doctor looked at it and I threw it away on her command. It never even left my hand. I've never taken a drug test before, but I had it in my mind that they were slightly more involved and involved a lab or something. Maybe that isn't the case, or it was for something else. When I get my results back I'll give a more detailed response about what was included in the tests.

Probably good advice. I don't even know if I was at a clinic or a hospital. It was pretty big, I assumed it was a hospital. Maybe not. |
