Hello all~

I am in the US waiting for my visa issuance number. My flight will be departing within a few weeks, Feb. 25th. I am expecting my visa # to be issued to me no later than Feb. 18th. In the case that I don't receive my visa # in time, I may have to process my visa in Japan.

For any previous E-2 holder: Have you recently been successful in obtaining your visa in Japan?

If you were able to process it in Japan, was it as simple as it was before the new regulations, confusion/madness?

Any information would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I made my visa run to Fukuoka during the Seollal holidays. The Korean Consulate in Fukuoka is open during Seollal and Chuseok, but closed on major Korean holidays such as March 1, August 15, and October 3 this year along with all Japanese government holidays.

The consulate in Fukuoka will accept visa applications for those who have previously held an E-2 visa without any immigration violations. I was urged by the consulate to request my immigration record to make sure there was nothing on it regarding immigration violations. They didn't ask to see it, though.

There was no interview. I just gave them my application, paid 5,400円 and was told to come back in the morning.

If you have dealt with the Fukuoka consulate in the past, you will find that they have the same bad tempered Japanese security guard that they always have. But the consulate staff are kind.

Yeah that guard always tells people to go away and not wait near the gates

I got my E-2 processed in Osaka at the end of January. No interview on my side either. Same as Fukuoka it seems, but I paid 6000 円.

Did my visa run in Qingdao China... no problems except they weren't sure how much to charge me... was quoted 3 prices before I arrived (all going up) but when I was there I was charged a much cheaper rate. Also had my son's visa done with no hitches. This was just before the New Year Holidays... Jan 28th I think.
