So, I'll be in Bali next wk and have some questions:

1) My co-worker said they have no problem accepting/exchanging in K won. Is this true???

2) Is it c.c. friendly??? Plan on swiping more than cash.

3) I plan on mostly sponging (bodyboarding), so is it safe if i leave my camera and personal items along the beach??? I'm sure it isn't...so what are some options?? b/c I wan't to take as many pix as possible

4) Should I rent car or scooter??? or neither??? If yes, would traveling around the island be better than touring???

Anyway, any advice would be great...

Based on my own, somewhat limited, experience in Bali:

1) There are places around where you can exchange won. How convenient they are depends on the town. I never heard of any stores accepting won outright in the place of rupiah, but maybe some do.

2) Many stores and guesthouses are not especially c card-friendly, but there are a lot ATMs around.

3) The beaches are safer than those in a lot of countries, but why risk it? It really sucks having a camera stolen. When I went to the beach to swim, etc, I brought as little as possible. Then I'd go back just to hang out and take pictures.

4) Depends on what you want to do. A scooter is okay for short trips if you're traveling a lot in one area. If you want to go sightseeing, taking a tour might be best. The tour groups are usually small (i.e. private or semi-private), and they can be pricey. If you just want to get from A to B, taxis are a good option, and there are a few different types to choose from.
