I need to get a document notarized for my criminal record check -- where can I do this? Do I need to translate the document into Korean so that the notary will understand it? What are your experiences in this matter?
Thanks |

If the notarization is for your home country, your embassy may be the best place to start. |

There are a number of translation services in proximity to the US Embassy in Seoul. Not sure about the notary part. I am not sure about notary services through the Embassy itself. I know they will not verify or authorize them, but they may notarize them. I do not believe the documents need to be translated into Korean though. |

It would help to know what type of document you need notarized. |

My local police station said that I need to write a notarized letter giving my mother the right to run a criminal record check on my name in order for them to perform the background check.
Judging from the responses, the embassy sounds like the best way to go. Thanks Ut and tob for the fast responses! |

The Power of Attorney form is available at the U.S. Embassy. $30 for notorial service. |

Hmm giving her the power of attorney might be the way to go, has anyone tried that before? Any stories?
And yes, I have watched the AFN PSA's enough to know all about the dangers of power of attorneys...I'm not too worried about my mom ripping me off. |

@ AFN PSAs
You can give a limited power of attorney, restricting the scope to a particular task (in your case, obtaining your criminal record check). A general power of attorney would be overkill. |
