Maybe a dumb question but here goes:

Are there any cool bands that come to Korea? Specifically Indie music...

Is so, how much does a typical concert cost and what are some examples of some cool bands that have made it there?

Thanks!

The only bands that come to Korea are bands that either washed out five years ago like Hanson, or underground bands you probably haven't heard of, like the Slackers or Terror. This weekend I think Bjork is coming too.

Is there a reason you're not interested in hearing any local bands?

The Strokes and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs played the Pentaport Music Festival a few years ago but last years line-up sucked. Don't hold your breath.

last years pentaport did not entirely suck. the Chemical Brothers and MUSE were both quite good, as well as countless other DJs who played sets at the "Pentaport Beach".

What are you looking for? There are a bunch of places around. Terror sucked... aaaannd so did the Slackers. Not all of the foreign bands that come here are good.

Korea is really hit or miss, unless you stumble upon something absolutely ridiculously random.

There are a lot of skilled musicians here, but that's all they are, skilled, with little to no creativity at all.

I did see one day at the playground near Hong-Ik University, a guy playing guitar and a girl singing. She was holding a cup from smoothie king and singing into it like it was a microphone, all the songs from Nirvana's Bleach. That was kind of cool.

Possibly two of the greatest bands since Led Zeppelin and the Beatles:
"40 Years" and "The Millenium Seals"

(Hey, anything is possible! ... Cool )

Anyway, it's a benefit (for Animal Rescue Korea - http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=113528

at Rocky Mountain Tavern in Itaewon, this Friday (Feb. 22) starting at 9.

Also included in the 12,000 won cover charge is live comedy from the "Seoul City Improv Group"

All proceeds will help dogs at the animal shelter in Daejeon.

For newcomers (and non-Canadians) here are directions to the place:

You're the first person I've ever heard of who thought the Slackers did not put on an amazing show.

I won't bash Bjork, but those other four bands all deserve to be left on a melting ice floe.
