|
|
I believe my co-teacher gets hassle from the Principal and that's why she has treated me negatively. I am like the unwanted child she couldn't put up for adoption.
It's not a good reason for her behaviour but I think that is the reason why she is not kind. She is scared of him and also can't stand him.
Anyway, we went to the Principal and he discussed with my co-teacher the issue of me renewing the contract 2 months before it expires, just before March 15th, to avoid the new visa regulations.
Yesterday, I gave a detailed note to the Principal explaining how helpful it would be if we could renew my contract before March 15th.
He didn't give any reason for his decision, he just said no, and at our school no teacher dares to ask why. He let me leave work early to post off my criminal check form to England.
The good news is I now know where I stand, so my anxiety is lower than before. I also managed to send the criminal check by express delivery. I was told it will take 4 days to get to the U.K.
I will return home in mid-April, so I hope the completed check will be at home when I arrive. I will apostille it in person in London, do a health check in Korea and then I'll be ready to visit immigration.
The countless comments on this forum as regards logic dieing when it comes to Korea, perfectly describes my experience today. |

I don't know, but I've thought about starting a thread on the subject of nasal hair, I hope you'll tune in for that one! |

if your principal won't let you renew at this time so that you can dodge the pesky new E2 regs and your school & co-teacher have been nasty to you all year, i'd say screw this school. he didn't even give a reason, and i believe other posters said that it was ok to renew this early
i know you said you're all comfortable and don't want to move, but when they're being such d1cks about stuff, i would relish the moment when i told them that i'd found a better job elsewhere (and that if they had granted my renewal earlier, i would've stayed).
principals in this country really p1ss me off, in many cases they act like little tyrants and will turn down someone's request just because they can. also i'm reminded of this English festival that i went to a while ago where all the korean teachers and FTs were sitting on fold out chairs watching the opening ceremony, but the principals? oh no, they all were away from us under a big tent sitting in big, black leather armchairs.
sorry for the rant of my own.... anyways, you should seriously consider the pros and cons of this job vs. another. you aren't going to dodge the new E2 regs, and that was a big pro |

It's just taken 15 days for the receipt from my SA check to arrive here in Korea (even when I don't need it). Get to it with that SA check for the UK.
I would as well advise you to get your basic disclosure ordered online as a backup |

mrsquirrel - I will just do the subject access check. The reason why is because for my current job the recruiter specified I needed a subject access check, some documentation from the board of education stated that was the form of criminal check they required.
They didn't mention the basic disclosure. I am as sure as I can be the subject access is sufficient, it's silly the Korean authorities don't easily clarify what is and isn't required.
I've asked the subject access check to be sent to my permanent family address in England, so it should definitely be waiting for me at home, to apostille it, when I arrive in England in mid-April.
nomad-ish - You're right, the Principal is being unhelpful because he can. Korea glittering! |

What are you worried about? Why are you bugging your principal to renew 'early'? Why are you sending away for a CBC?
You work at a public school and are essentially exempt from the new regulations -
"Teachers who were issued an E2 visa before the changes, working in an elementary, middle, and high school are no longer required to submit a criminal background check or health report (but must submit an HIV/ AIDS, drug, TBPE, and 카니비노이드검사 test), when renewing, extending, or transferring their visa." |

cruisemonkey - Other posters on this forum, as well as GEPIK's own website state I need a CRC and health check done in Korea, if I renew my contract after March 15th. |

OK... but the CBC must be strictly a GEPIK requirement - it's not coming from Immigration.
GEPIK's treating you like you're a new applicant. That sucks! |

I'm confused to be honest. I believe the CRC and health check is for all GEPIKers who renew after March 15th, for immigration purposes. |

That is correct. If you renew with GEPIK before March 15th you don't need to get a CRC or health check. If you renew after the 15th you will need to get them done again. |

I would still advise to have another record check available for you when you get there. Just in case something happens or they decide you need it. Only costs 20 quid and it means you are covered.
You yourself know how fickle things can be here. |

mrsquirrel - I am usually pedantic with almost everything, but I won't get the other check done as well. Interestingly, GEPIK doesn't specify which criminal check you need, I feel the subject access is more credible.
If both are acceptable to GEPIK, that's fine, but I already know from experience the subject access is sufficient, so I doubt they will ask for the other check in place of the subject access, or in addition to it.
I can't be bothered to do 2 checks. I'm as sure as I can be it won't be a problem (at least I hope so). I feel another email to Wenise Kim coming on! |
