Some quotes from the GEPIK Q&A website.
When registering you must use your real details. A good thing or not?

Using a fake or phony ID to register onto a web site, could be subjected to a 3 year jail sentence
or a fine of no less than 10 million won. So make sure to use your real name and identification. |

One would think that the goal of the Provincial Education Office would be to offer the best teachers and education that it could to the students of the province. Increased professional development would certainly go a long way to improve the quality of both the teachers and the teaching. |
A very good point

The reason for the lack of opportnities for formal 'professional training' or of a kind to the native teachers organised by GPOE would simply be that, so far, we were not presented with such demand or need, apart from the initial orientation and the half yearly one once a year to teachers we already provide with - which is not to say that we are oppsed to the idea ! |
Sounds promising.

Actual teaching occurs at school, and much of what goes on at school is not governed or controlled by our office |
Ah sounds less promising now.

we realise that much of the quality also could be readily improved just through better communication skills and varying class structures or management styles without a lenghty seperate 'training' per se. As native teachers are alwasy assigned to work together with Korean co-teachers, it's a collaboration of work and understanding that we need - "team work" and open approach from both parties with support of the school. |
It's reassuring to know that GEPIK are listening and realise the short comings of the system.

We invite native speakers in a hope to introduce more dynamic teaching styles and atmosphere to the class and thus bring a 'fresh breath' to the life of learning English for the students |
We aren't here to teach them to colour in little square boxes.
