Which courses are recognized by the Korean public school system to get the relevant pay increase?

I'm thinking about doing an online 100 hr-type course. Laughing

After reading the site they say it's 20 hours at home online and then one weekend course, then you get a 100 certificate, how does that add up to 100 hours Confused

The 100 hour online ITTT course worked for me. I came into my current GEPIK school as a new hire with it though, and there is the possibility that it will be scrutinized a bit more if you spring it on your school and demand a pay increase mid-contract. Still, it's legitimate and should be accepted as far as I'm aware.

I've emailed ITTT, they've answered my questions and I've now applied to do the course. Here we go.... Laughing

In 9 days, I have successfully completed 4 units of the ITTT online 100 hr TEFL course (with online support). There are only 20 units.

To get an increase of 200,000 won a month after this certificate is complete, kind of makes me laugh. This course is quite easy, cheap and will enable me to earn much more money than the course actually costs.

I'd advise you to do it. Think about the money. Laughing

It must be "over 100 hours" per the pay increase rules.

Make sure it's not just 100.

This is from the GEPIK application package for this year:

Category 1-C
-TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certificate comprised of a minimum of 100 course hours -Minimum two years of full-time English teaching experience at accredited institution(s)

I believe 100 hours is enough. I hope so, Embarassed because mine is only 100 hours. On this thread one poster has stated they did the 100 hour course and got the pay rise. Laughing

I must add this is my second year of work. When the next contract begins I'll have 2 years experience and (I hope) this TEFL certificate, which means my base pay will go up from 2.1 to 2.3 million a month. Cool

Will ITTT work for SMOE? I am strongly considering it. Any SMOE teachers used this and their pay scale went up as a result?

I have heard ITTT worked for some people on here, so you should be OK.

I've seen rules quoted that said, "over 100 hours" but I can't say exactly where from. You'll probably be OK. Mine was 120 hours on the certificate. I figure I'm covered with that.

Bass - I believe it has to be over 100 hours if somebody wants the pay increase mid-contract, but as copied and pasted earlier in this thread Cool , GEPIK states in the application pack for 2008 the course must consist of a minimum of 100 course hours.

I've just got an email from ITTT which now confirms I've passed Unit 5. I've passed 25% of the course in under 2 weeks. Not bad eh?!! Laughing

Thank you Clark.

Youll have to excuse me for asking this, but where can I get more information about KEI TEFL or TEFL courses? How exactly do you sign up for them? Do you need to travel to Seoul for classes?

So many questions
