What can we do?
Is this not ridiculous. It is sometimes very hard to find a decent job.
200 Pantech Jobs Attracts 30,000 Applicants
Pantech Co., a leading producer of digital CDMA mobile phones, said Sunday that about 29,700 persons applied for the 200 job openings the company offered for new college graduates in the second half of this year, a ratio of 149 job-seekers for one position, far higher that the average 83-to-one ratio for job offerings at major firms in the country. The company said that 3,000 of the applicants had a master's degree or a doctorate, 1,600 had studied in a foreign country, and 340 had some kind of professional degree, such as a certified public account, a sign that the job market is tighter now than ever before.
Because of the large number of highly educated job applicants at Pantech, the company had decided to raise its employment target from 140 to 200. The firm said the results of the hiring drive would be announced in December.

What is sad, is that Korean job seekers are only oriented in working for large cooperations. It is almost like they wait for these positions to open for them or get lucky in landing one. The rest of the time, the spend getting over educated instead of doing something that adds to society, and might help them get a good job. |

...and while I was back home in BC in Feb. '02, I stood in a line, outside in the cold for two hours, along with several hundred other people, just to get an interview for a TEMPORARY minimum-wage job at Canadian Tire, to help (i.e. assemble and stock shelves) with the renovaion/expansion... things is tough all over.
My B.Ed degree means more here than at home right now. |

The hogwon situation is not that good here either. Three years ago I would get 30 replies (sometimes pleas) to a part-time wanted post. One year ago I would get 7-8 replies. One week ago, I got one reply and it was for a phone job . Either there are too many foreigners here now (damn illegals!), or a lot of the mom and pop places are closing or cutting costs. Hold on to your job folks!
