Yes sadly it is NOT and I actually went through the hassle of finally getting a U.S.A. machine just to play this game. I do absolutely love the game, yet still curse EA for region locking it, thereby fracking over anyone who doesn't have a N.A. machine. It's one thing to NOT release the game in Asia, but by region locking it they don't even give the option for someone to pay (at their own expense) to have it shipped over. I'm still pissed at having to jump through all the hoops I did to FINALLY get this game!

Do you think anyone would want to trade my Korean X-Box for a North American one?

Probably those who have their N.A. machines are happy to keep them so when they go back they'll be ok. Personally I think the whole reasoning behind "region locking" reall fukcs people over. I think if you buy an Xbox 360 it should play all Xbox 360 games, shouldn't matter where you live.
Even ordering from Amazon directly is impossible as they don't ship consoles out of North America. I had considered buying off of ebay and having it shipped over (some sellers DO ship overseas) but thought twice about a used machine. Finally I lucked out getting a friend of a friend to get me one on base. Good luck to you...............and if you do ever end up getting one and want to play that would be cool.

Cool man. I may have to sell my Korean one, and buy a N.A. one.

I don't think it's EA who region-locks the game but XBOX. I have a Korean-bought PS3 and can play EA NHL '08. Of course I had to order it as they don't sell it here. Actually I believe that all PS3 games are region-free.

They have it for XBOX 360. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a modded 360 play anything?

By the way, my game came almost a month after I ordered it since it was on back-order so it's safe not to assume that it will come in 5-15 days as stated.

There is a hack available to change the region coding by firmware. The process is complicated and there is high risk of bricking your 360 when using XBOX live. Microsoft does updates through XBOX live and may check to see if the hardware keys in the firmware are correct.

rmparent is your system modded? Have you ever played X-Box LIVE with your Korean system and N.A. game?

It is possible to change the firmware which enables you to play copy games but as far as I know there is still NOT a region hack. I had a modded machine before but could only play games that were either region free or for NTSC-J. My buddy had his console bricked after a major update so that scared me into not going onto Xbox live anymore. It's just not worth the risk in my opinion, unless online play is not important to you, in that case you've got nothing to lose. Anyway I could be wrong about the region hack but do some reseach of your own.

here are the instructions to hack the region code on the 360.

Quote:

From SeventhSon on xboxhacker.net (free reg. req.):

I successfully changed the DVD key and region code of a 360. So it's all confirmed.

As for landmarks and interweb fame. All I did towards this was to reverse the plaintext KV signature to figure out how to modify and resign the KV contents. And even this work was built on the efforts of other hackers. For example, I didn't locate the region code in the KV and a lot of the SHA1 and RC4 encryption code was reversed and documented by others way before I started looking at it. *If* the region code tests are successful, then the following people contributed *much more* to this achievement than me.
Takires, TheSpecialist, Robinsod, tmbinc.

The following assumes you have the correct 1BL key and CPU key set in the flashtool.
1. Dump the NAND from the US 360 (528-bytes-per-page)
2. Open in the latest flashtool (v0.Cool and click [extract]
3. Edit extracted KV.bin and change 16-bits at offset 0xB8 from 0x00FF to 0x02FE
4. Open in flashtool and click [patch], check the "patch keyvault" box and select the KV.bin modified in step 3
5. Click [OK] and choose output file
6. Flash output image back to the NAND of the US 360
7. Try an EU game or two.

Arakon tested this successfully:

My USA 360 just booted a PAL (non-regionfree) game. the region patching WORKS.

Ok well I stand corrected. True what you said about it being complicated though. I wouldn't have the first clue as to how to do this. Hopefully it'll become mainstream enough to be possible someday to buy ready to go at Yongsan.

I actually don't have an XBOX; only PS3. And it's not modded. I've been told that a PS3 cannot be modded or there is no need to mod it as all the games are region-free. Although I'm unsure if it will play copied blu-ray games (is that even possible?).

I was going to buy an XBOX but I'm definitely glad a waited for the PS3 as it offers more bang for the buck (region-free, blu-ray, better online capablities-IMO).
