I'm going home in 10 days. I have a layover in Toronto, and will be staying with an Aunt who I haven't seen in 4 years. I also haven't seen my little cousins in 4 years, who are now 5 years old, and 8 years old. I want to get them something small (carry on case perhaps) from Korea as a gift.
If anyone who shops for kids regularly could give me some tips, I'd greatly appreciate any ideas. I don't shop for kids..... well.....ever, and am kind of out of the loop as to what is cool and what is not. I think the girl will be easier to buy for because she's younger, and female. Seeing as how I'm a girl, I personally would find it easier to shop for a little girl, but I'm completely out of ideas for my 8 year old male cousin.
HELP ME!
I want to be that cool cousin who got them something cool from Korea haha. |

How about one of those really annoying noisy game playing mirror flipping seventeen compartments pencil cases?
Also, bring them back some weird food. Like dried squid. They probably won't eat it, but they might like showing it to their friends. |

How about getting the boy a watch, not a fancy expensive one but something that looks gadgety? Boys like gadgets and it's a useful gift too.
Girls are easier to shop for and of course girly girl things in Korea are a dime a dozen. If I were you I'd make up a litttle package with various things including one useful gift. Kids like a lot of 'stuff' They bore easily with just one thing, so make them happy by giving them lots of things.
Hope this helps a little:) |

I got my nephew (who is 8 and has everything) a bunch of stationery. notebooks, cool "sharp" pencils, the crayons that extend when you twist the bottom...a bunch of other stuff like that. He really liked it....thought he was cool with all his interesting stuff from Korea! throw in a couple of those squishy tomato things that you can slam on the ground. cheap stuff that kids love! |

Hmmm I didn't think about school supplies at all. Pencil cases and sharp pencils (with cool stuff on them of course) could be a good idea.
I was also thinking those winter hats that all the kids wear that are animal heads.
I was thinking of getting them some "my chews" or other candy, but hadn't thought of dried squid. I'd probably just go to waste, so I probably wouldn't bring that hahaha.
Keep the ideas coming, I like them so far! |

All my nieces and nephews are in that age group. I bought them all the same thing - those animal head hats that the kids wear here. They were all extremely thrilled. |

I've loads of nieces and nephews.
Most popular item (and requested again ) packets of dried squid/octopus things, not the strips, but the whole thing in all its glory - they look hideous, but all the kids thought they were great, in a disgusting kind of way.
Also, a few tins of bondegi didn't go amiss, (for the gross factor again).
Those annoying boxy pencil cases with 101 different compartments went down okay.
Any kind of wacky whatsit/stationery/towels/cups with strange English or Korean on it from Artbox they liked too.
Pumpkin candy (because in NZ it's solely a vege and no one can believe it could be sweet - don't have pumpkin pie at all which I think is sweet?).
If she's a girly girl maybe some of those extreme fluffy/cutesy hairclips etc.
Have fun on your return home.

how about a 3 year old girl and a 2 year old boy? those are the people I have to buy gifts for when I go home in March (my niece and nephew). I'm at a total loss as to what to get them. I was thinking some type of Korean doll for my niece, but I have no idea where i can find one, but for the little boy I'm positively clueless.
any suggestions? |
