there's the one that can be so cool and nice and a gentleman
today the driver took a route I didn't know - we were in a nabe I didn't know - and I was so upset thinking we were going the wrong way and maybe we were, maybe we weren't - but he had shouted at me when I started to get in his cab because I didn't go to the front of the line but I came from behind and had heavy bags and wasn't going to keep walking that way, I mean, they were really heavy. It was really annoying he shouted at me the way he did.
Then when I didn't recognize where we were - I was so upset - I told him to pull over and I just got out and crossed the street and tried to calm down. Then I flagged down another cab.
I was really tired, bad week - and not knowing where I was - which is rare, I know Seoul very well - and this other driver didn't speak E at all but he could tell something was wrong - he kept trying to speak -
and I felt tears coming on - ok - well - sometimes when one is really tired - and he really tried to talk to me and wound up making me laugh - and then when we finally got to my apt - he took my hand and kissed the back of it - such a gentleman - !
yeah, I know, very sappy, but am glad there are a few good guys out there for those jerkoff asine mfs who are just taking up space..... |

Good story. Here's something similar.
I was driving with my wife today. I went down a narrow road, and got to almost the end, when a big truck was blocking me. Then I noticed a car was waiting behind it, and I had seen an area where I could pull off to the side a ways back, so I did. Once the truck parked, the car comes along and parks RIGHT in front of me, so I can't go ahead! This is after I had gone waaaaay back to let her get by. So, I had to back up some more, and the lady pulls forward again!!! So I had to back up again, and as I proceeded I honked and gave her the finger. My wife was pissed at me. Then, 5 minutes later, I'm driving and I go to turn left, perfectly legal, had my turn signal on, and a taxi who I guess thought I was going too slow, lays on his horn in a really threatening way just as he passes me going way over the speed limit. If my wife wasn't in the car, I would have followed him. Then, I'm going along and I get to an intersection on a secondary road, and it's a green light, but a taxi from the side has pulled into the intersection, illegally. I go right behind him, but I have to let him in, as he is blocking my way. Then the cars ahead move, and he moves, the light is still green for me, and a taxi behind the first taxi tries to cut me off and cut into the line! I wouldn't let him, I had to pull to my left, but got by, and gave him the finger, my second finger of the day. by now, my wife is royally pissed at me, but I told her the guy was trying to get me to hit him, and I had the right of way. I also said that if more people gave the finger and were angry, maybe driving would improve.
So, looong story short, about 5 minutes later, I get to this intersection and as I get to the crosswalk the light turns yellow. Of course, I proceed. I know, a little hypocritical, but if there's one traffic rule in Korea, it's blow the yellow light. And of course, there's 2 young cops fresh out of police academy waiting to ahead and wave me over. The first newbie cop comes up the window and his eyes get really big as he sees it's a waygook. He says something to my wife in korean, and I say, "Do you need to see my licence?" He says yes. Then he's about to talk, laughs, and runs away to get the other cop, who speaks better English. The second cop comes up, smiles, and says, "Where are you from?" I tell him, Canada. He looks at the licence and looks amazed. Then I say, "The light was yellow, so I went through". He starts to say something, "We can see the light from here..." I say, "Yes, but it was yellow, not red" and he thinks for a second, and laughs, "Have a nice day!" and runs away.
My wife was so happy, and we had a good laugh. Maybe my worst day of driving ever, but it definitely had a happy ending, thanks to the 5-O of Daejeon. |

| I find most taxi drivers I talk to are pretty cool people. I just have to talk with them. Talking with the taxi driver makes the ride more pleasant |

| I once had a guy go the complete opposite way to where we were going. When I corrected him he smiled, nodded and turned around. When we got there the meter said 12000 won. He charged us 5000. Wonder if that came out of his pocket. |

I can rely on my wife to do the yelling and on odd occasions sign language when some nut cuts us off etc. It's probably good for tosser drivers to have both husband and wife yelling at them. |

Some taxis in Korea pay a fixed amount to the Taxi company to "rent the car", it comes with a full tank i think. All the Money they make is for them.
Other taxis are independents, and have license to do so.
Some are hired and get a percentage of the proceedings.
no so straightforward. |

| Most taxi drivers are nice but I still don't get why it makes any difference to them which way you go or how many stops and U-turns you make when the meter's running. |
