I have just been told that there is a Swiss Chalet in South Korea. Does anyone know if it's located in Seoul? If so, where is it? I'm suffering serious chicken and ribs withdrawl!

I heard about that when I first came here and my heart leapt!

But unfortunately, it's called Chalet Swiss, an Itaewon restaurant that specializes in Swiss cuisine.

Swiss Chalet is more than just the great food. The decor, the atmosphere, the extra's at holiday time, the waitresses, the smell, the memories.

And the Swiss Chalet sauce! Yowza! I'd love to open one out here if they ever offered franchises abroad and I had sufficient start-up capital. They want $400,000 unencumbered and an additional $800,000 in net worth. I'd rather bring their sauce recipe to my own menu, than shell out that.

They used to sell packets for making the dipping sauce in grocery stores back home... not sure if they still do that or not, but if so, it would SOOOOOO be worth having some mailed over here.

There's a Swiss restaurant near Gangnam station, never been in it but I've wandered by a few times.

I like Swiss food, but there's nothing Swiss about Swiss Chalet. Wink

I can cook decent chicken and chips at home but it's not as good as Swiss Chalet because I don't have their ovens.
You probably won't like it as much as Swiss Chalet but the Turkish restaurant near the mosque in Itaewon has great chicken and chips for 4,000 Won. There aren't many fries that go with it but the quarter chicken is very good and it's all covered in a thin Turkish sauce. I sopped up the sauce with some flatbread (1,000 Won) after I finished the chicken and fries. After your meal you can pick up some Middle Eastern spices and Basmati rice at the little grocery next to the mosque.
That's what this little country boy did last weekend ^^

Chalet Swiss (the one in itaewon) serves decent stuff in a relaxing atmosphere. It's also one of the few places in Seoul that has genuine fondue on the menu.

It's always been expensive (been going there for more than 10 years) and as of late I would say that the cost/value ratio has almost reached an unfeasibility point for regular customers, but it's worth at least giving it a try. Take a date.

Location: From the Hamilton, walk down to the fire station intersection, take a left up the hill leading top the Hyatt. It'll be on your right after about 200 meters.
