The new semester started this week. I have classes full of bright-eyed but nervous young freshmen all taking their mandatory English course and when some older students came in and asked if they could speak to them as I was leaving class I said 'go ahead'. I simply assumed they were senior students from the same department, there to give the new students friendly advice about study, group activities and so on.
I came back for the next class and there was the same group of seniors. This time the group leader confidently approached and asked to speak to my students for 10 minutes before class. Again, assuming they were fellow refrigeration engineers with some kind of "let's make a robot!" project to announce I oblidgingly waited outside in the corridor.
A couple of minutes into their presentation the spotty faced leader came out again and, with an awkward little smile, said something that saw the clouds obscure the sun and the blood drain from my face...
"기"...gi
"독"...dok
"교" gyo
Now, as any diligent student of Korean knows, a lot of Korean vocabulary is based on Chinese characters.
For example, 기 (gi) is connected to energy, such as with 기운 (gi-un: energy/strength) 생기 (saeng-gi: vigor) and 화기 (hwa-gi: the force of fire). 독 (dok) is connected to poison, such as with 병독 (byeong-dok: virus) and 독극물 (dok-guk-mul: toxic chemicals) and 교 gyo is often connected with religion, such as 불교 (bul-gyo: Buddhism) and 교리 (gyo-ri: doctrine).
So when this guy said 기독교 (gi-dok-gyo) I immediately know he meant the Religion of Poisonous Energy, Christianity. By this time they had finished their introductory speech (which was not in fact about building robots to take over the world, but rather something far far worse), and they were actually praying in my classroom. The students, most of whom turned out to be non-Christian anyway, were praying along, more out of politeness than conviction. Before my very eyes I could see these poor innocent things being pulled into a trap most vile - materialistic, sanctimonious and morally corrupt mainstream Korean Christianity. Without a moment to lose, and with no thought for my own personal safety, I leaped into my classroom, my Holy Shrine of English Conversation, my Inner Sanctuary of Intransitive Verbs, to rescue my innocent flock.

"Right, time's up"

I ushered the CCC god-squad out of my class, their leader's gangrenous face boiling red with indignant rage at being foiled in his attempts to lure more believers (ie, cash cows) into their church (ie, business). A quick survey of my students revealed no casualties. Most were still athiests or buddhists thank goodness.

After class I left a Korean language message on the board "To the Christians, please do not preach in here" and told the CCC zealots still lurking in the corridors that no, they were not to take any of my class time and no, they were not to enter the classroom. On returning from my break however I saw that they pounced again. The cheeky fuckers had actually sneaked into the classroom again, erased my message and handed out more church leaflets to my waiting students. I can't believe these little ferrets. Does anyone have some kind of Christian-Be-Gone spray?

"Hi. My name is Rebekah, as in the Bible, and I want to start a Campus Crusade for Christ chapter at school here."

"Okay. Did you ask Jesus if it was okay?"

"Pardon?"

"I said," "Did you ask Jesus if it was okay?"

"Uh, no, but Jesus wouldn't mind."

"You need his permission. Sorry."

"Er.. he died... a long time ago... for our sins."

"Hold on. Is Jesus...God?"

"Yes, of course."

"And is God eternal and all-knowing, and ever-present?"

"Yes. He's much like Santa."

"If Jesus is God, and God is alive, then you must get his permission. It's all about legal responsibility."

"I didn't know..."

"No, you didn't. You are too simplistic. Get a notarized signature, pay the $25 club fee, and we have no problem."

"Gee, thanks!"

A troll is anyone who posts things to get people riled up. Reason the word gets thrown around a lot is because there are a lot of trolls. Cool Most of us have been trolls ourselves at one point or another...

I thought Christians loved crosses.

Maybe you could use it to lure them away.

I don't care what the students or the administration of the school do in the classroom after my time is over. It's not my business. And it's certainly not the OP's business what the students' religion is or if they changed their religion.

If the preacher types are doing this on the OP's time, then it's an administrative/disciplinary matter to take up with the school admin.

This is Korea. We'll need it to be apostillized.

This is Korea, not the USA. Certainly, you have a right to your own hatred of Religion.

BUT DON'T TRY TO SHOVE YOUR ANTI-GOD CRAP DOWN THE THROAT OF OTHER CULTURES. TALK ABOUT A LACK OF CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND SENSITIVITY.

The majority of the World's population {outside of Secular States} are religious and see no problem with the public moral / religious education of their youth.

Yes, can we please let the 'troll' word die a natural death please. If you have nothing to say just don't post. The OP's situation is serious. Universities are supposedly places of 'higher education'. There is absolutely no place for simple-minded fools who believe in creationism and talking snakes in a place of higher learning. The fact that they were less than honest about their objectives when entering your classroom is also annoying. 'Divine deception' the basatards call it.

F4ck religion and the simple-minded fools who believe it. Recommend to your students that they read Sam Harris' End of Faith and write a book report on it.

University seniors who still believe bible stories. Rolling Eyes

Doesn't matter-it is his classroom, you moron.

Personally, I would not allow Mormons access to my class, but then again, it's my class.

Go bang your bible some other time. The guy does not hate religion he just hates people who shove it on other people during his class time. Why don't you do something better with your time, I am sure there are some people out there who would love to talk to you about Jesus and how much you should give your church a month.
