KBS will produce a 100-minute look at the education policy proposals of Lee Myung-bak's transition team.

Apparently, the producer wants views more nuanced than "communicative language teaching will save the country" for a round-table segment to be filmed next week.

If you're interested in participating, please email me: [email protected]

Jay

Sure, I'm sure many people here would be happy to. But first please post his "plan." Do you mean the 2010 English taught in English initiative, or something else relating to Native teachers?

Best not to be blind-sided...

Does that mean the producer wants folks who agree with him/her?

I want someone to say that I find it ironic one of his new appointees is from Sookmyung, and that she's come out talking about how all Koreans should get a TEFL certification (when Sookmyung's course costs 4.4 million won).

Yea but it's illegal for teachers to participate. Might get deported or fined!

I'll do it! As long as they blur my face and overdub my voice to sound like a chipmunk. Laughing

I would advise against it.

The Korean Media does not shy away from twisting what you said into something they want to hear.

Too true. By the time KBS is done with you, you'll come off as a drug taking, private teaching, North Korean sympathizing pedophile who is spreading AIDS like wildfire.

If they have extra time they might also make note of your fake degree.

There is little danger of being blind-sided. All the participants will be foreign teachers so together you'll be able to steer the discussion more or less as you please.

Lee's team has floated a lot of proposals, so you wouldn't run out of topics.

Some of the more controversial plans include allowing individual universities to decide admissions policy (which many feel will most benefit wealthy families), "teaching English in English" from first year elementary (which many feel will benefit families who can afford English-intensive kindergartens), and the mass hiring of "near-native" speakers as teachers and teaching assistants.

I don't know whether bigger issues, such as the absence of public funding for early childhood and tertiary education, will be introduced. Like I said, the participants will be directing the dialogue.

unlike American media we have no rights here and we cant sue kbs for slander or misrepesentation. Its a nice gesture but kbs has an agenda that is 5000% pro-Korea and 10000% let's make fun of freigners because they are screwing our daughters.
