I am wondering if it is possible to change to a tourist visa (I dont know the designation yet) as I am leaving my job after 6 months and want to chill with friends before I take a new job or leave the country.
Thanks for your help! |

My girlfriend told me that a foreigner may transfer to a Tourist visa, after they have finished up with their E-2 visa (contract sponsored) by visiting Immigration. You will need your Visa, your alien I.D (ARC card) and some form of proof that you are leaving the country.
This doesn't help in your situation, since you want to stay. Buy a plane ticket for a later date. Use it as said proof. Then cancel the ticket. Or buy a cheap ferry ticket, then refund. Or just buy the ferry ticket and go on holidays. |

When immigration did that transfer for me, they gave me a whopping 7 or 10 days (I can't remember which) before I had to leave.
You'll basically have to do a ferry to Japan, or a plane ride somewhere and come back. You can do it all in the same day. |
