So I am totally freaking out because I have my flight for Sunday because I start training with my school on Monday and the embassy in Toronto still has NOT issued my visa!!
I had my interview last Tuesday and I have been calling them everyday this week and they just keep on telling me to check online and call back.

As you can imagine this is very frustrating for me because they are telling me that if there were problems they would have contacted me already, but if there are no problems then I don't understand why they haven't issued my visa yet since they had more then enough time.

Has this happened to anyone else? I know with other Korean embassy locations they usually give you the visa on the spot so this is making me so antsy. Can they just refuse or delay it for no reason?
Or are Koreans just simply last minute??

Laughing You haven't arrived yet, but you've started to experience Han-guk culture! Laughing

P.S. It usually takes five working days for an embassy/consulate to issue a visa. Hopefully, you'll get your visa Friday (fingers crossed), but if you have to wait until Monday... who bought your plane ticket?

The school sent me my flight ticket. I've been telling them about the issues but they don't seem to be too alarmed as well.

Well i guess I really have no choice but to just show up at the embassy tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Oh and about the training you think you're going to get...

That's just a bad illusion!

They want to get a look at you in person before they give you your visa.

This is an old trick.

If you're not what they're looking for, they'll leave you at the airport.

The Toronto Consulate is like that. They'll get you your visa on Friday, I bet, but they've been a real pain in the ass regarding the new regs. Hey, how was your interview? Did they just ask you the same questions that you'd already answered on your application form?

you'll get your visa on friday AS LONG AS you show up in person...i had a similar situation come up...i was leaving the sunday and my visa was issued on the friday before i left...i was told as long as there were no hiccups i'd have my visa in 5 business days...i did leave it kind of last minute dropping my stuff off on the friday the week before, but it was the fault of my recruiter getting me my visa # friday at like 4am my time...anyways, i showed up on friday...was polite, asked the young girl is she could just let me know what time my visa would be ready at today...she flipped through a stack of files, found mine...said wait 5 minutes...and wouldn't you know, my visa was placed in my passport...

just be polite and direct...you won't have a problem...if all else fails, your school will change your flight...not a worry...

Yep, pretty much.
What is your degree in? Where did you study? how do you know about Korea? and where did I find out about this job.

pretty stupid and standard questions. A waste of 5 mins and more considering the wait time of half an hour to get interviewed. I feel bad for people who have to drive hours just for this.

OP

I feel for you. Try not to worry too much though...

Your school can't get anyone else into your position any more quickly so it's not your problem... it's theirs. They have to realize that their government is responsible for these decisions that cause the delays.

I'm in the same boat except that I refuse to book my ticket even though my school is pusshing me to to do it. I'm waiting until the visa is in my passport and if it means I'm late... oh well...

Each embassy and consulate is different and unfortunately it sounds like the one in Toronto is one of the worst to deal with.

Hope it all goes well and please update this thread when you do get things sorted!!

I would imagine the Consulate Interview questions are like this:

1. Are you gay?

2. Do you "LIKE" children?

3. Do you want to meet Korean women?

4. Do you take drugs?

5. Why do you want to go our country? It is a private and secret country for only Koreans.

Then they would look at your degree and have a meeting agree that it looks good. You collect your visa and they say that you must only stay for a year and go back to your own country.

Why don't they slap a huge sign on the Korean sign.

"Korea is only for Koreans."

or

"Foreigners go home."
