It is kind of cute, but it isn't the first time the Korean gov't has demanded something then winced when the US agreed. About 20 years ago they demanded the US leave Yongsan (Itaewon) and the US agreed. As you know, the US troops are still there because the Korean gov't dragged its feet in the actual implementation of the agreement.

That's quite funny. Koreans talk about wanting American forces out of Korea, and yet the powers that be don't even want Americans to give up control over Korean forces. I guess it's hard to grow up and leave the nest, or in this case, have the parents leave the nest. Good ol' Confucism.

This type of discrepancy is not unheard of among nationalists, especially the ones with more nebulous grievances. You know the reason why Quebec separatists never pose a direct question about independence in their referendums. They know that if they did, most of the people who vote oui to sovereignty-association or whatever would jump ship.
