Well it seems pretty clear that Hagwons in general are directed by the devil himself. Very Happy However, what about Public Schools?? Of all the bad things I hear about Korea, are these comments directed at elementary- and high-schools as well?

Also, I see a lot of public school jobs that have hours from just 12:30 - 5pm or 1-5:30pm and the salary is like 2.2 or 2.3 million won per month. hmm, seems good to me.

But then TONS of jobs are offering hours from 9-5 for the same money.

What's the deal? Is the only difference that if you do the 9-5 day you get breaks in between and the luxury of spending all day at a wonderful Korean educational institution? hehe

Thanks

Those jobs that offer 2.2 , 12 00-5 00 , in public school are nothing but trouble.I ve known a few teachers who ve dealt with a few different after school programs ,the end result is the teachers always gets screwed.
Some of the after school programs are run by companies which were in the hogwon buiness.
They had to leave the hogwon buiness cause they went bank rupt.
Just recently EWAS ( English With a Smile) decided to get involved with the after school program. This company is in the process of going bankrupt.

I talked to a few of those 1-5 ones (afterschool programs) and while everything looks good, each one wanted me to open a bank account in my name for the kids to pay the company. I don't think so. Opening a bank account in your name and handing it over, especially in a foreign country, would have to be the dumbest thing anyone would ever do. Needless to say, the forums always has someone on here each week complaining that they thought it would be fine.

Pay is also usually dependant on the number of students you have. Housing can be an issue, too.

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

So what is this now about pay dependent on the number of students. I thought it was in the contract that you get paid a certain amount per month whether it's 2 million or what. So you could get paid less than that if you don't have enough students. And what about housing? How do they screw you with that?

there is an after school program where your visa is sponsored through the principal and you are not required to open up a bank account for the students...i currently work for such a program and i couldn't be happier with my situation...if you're interested in learning more...send me a pm...

i teach from 1-5 only
but my contract is from 11-6...first hour is prep...second hour is lunch...i start teaching at 1...5:25 i finish and i go home at 6...during the school vacation i teach from 9-1:25 and go home at 2:30...

i have a great relationship with my employer and my principal...so does my friend who's working with the same company at another public school...
