I just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about the 장한평 (Janghanpyeong) area?

Places to recommend or not recommend, etc.

And does anyone know of a good gym in the area?

If you're talking about the area on the East side of Seoul on line #5, it's famous for low-price, full service massage parlours. No joke.

It might help your searches if you spelled it "Janghanpyeong." I don't know the area myself but there are probably a lot of good options around.

There's a big used car market in the area, and a very good dentist, but it's a pretty dodgy area. A friend used to work there (he led me to the dentists) but he always advised me to avoid the area after dark.

Its a bit noisy because of the big road (천호대로).
Its hard to find a good cup of coffee around those parts too--
I used to walk down to 군자.
It is close to a walking/bike trail that goes really far--nice in the summer,
even for roller-blading.
Lotsa busses go by that area too.
Do be careful at night, usually due to the older K. men who hang out
in the area. (It has a weird "Boys Club" feel to it)
Not much for bakeries or good grocers--gotta go to 군자 or 답십리.
Sorta creepy at night--really no place to reside if you have a Mrs.
Sometimes you get the riff-raff from off the highway, also sorta creepy.

Yeah...

Sadly, I've heard the "massage parlor" thing myself. I was just hoping that further out from there, there were less shady things. Glad to hear that there's a trail at least to walk/run in warmer weather.
