I've recently changed jobs to a PS, when we signing the contract and what not it was mentioned that I would be getting a new computer (the recruiter said this, and as it wasn't on paper I didn't take much notice of it - not to mention I have a top of the line laptop so the thought of getting a new pc didn't make me all wet), I hadn't given the issue any thought since then.
Now, while I'm waiting for the semester to begin I've moved into the new apartment. This afternoon I was out for a couple of hours and when I got back there was a brand new computer sitting on my desk. I was originally shocked (did I walk into the wrong apartment??) but no it was my place. There on the desk was a new computer all set up (clingfilm still on the box) and a new printer, a couple of manuals and cd's were lying on the bed - My darling laptop was sitting on the floor.
Initially, I was pretty excited - I'm quite a technophile and have gone through phases of being really interested in computers. However, after turning the baby on, finding out its all in korean and checking the specs out (very fair for entry level i might add) I'm a little angry.
Not angry with a new computer (come on, who would be), but somewhat insulted that they deemed to walk into my apartment without so much as giving me notice. After about 20minutes of fiddling with the new pc, I put it aside and plugged in my laptop.
As I'm writing this, Im aware I'm coming off as an ungrateful chop. The one thing I'm really glad about is the printer.
It all came across as a bit random. NOTHING has been mentioned about it in the past 3weeks (even though i've been in contact with the school multiple times) and there was no attempt to contact me or even a note left in my apartment regarding this.
Was thinking of changing the access code to my lock, but as long as new stuff keeps arriving I guess ill let the code be for a while |

It's not yours. It's yours to use. Which means they have the right to reclaim it at any time. It's like a work computer...anything on it is their product....whether it's porn or educational product. <hint. check to see if you have full administrator access>
My advice? Take it to school, say, "Thanks, that was really thoughtlful of you, but I have my own!" and not address it further.
Now....if it's a kick@SS gaming 'puter, use it for gaming, and nothing more. Strip off the extraneous crap that slows down you gaming experience, and that's it.
Please do let us know what you decide to do, and what happens... |

Juregen, I'll be changing the codes asap.
Poet13: I pretty much thought it was "just mine to use". Would be curious to check if I have full admin access, but I have no clue how to do so on a Korean OS. Was thinking of taking it to the school (have no real need for it, and it takes up space) but I feel that would come across as being rude and ungrateful - might piss someone off before I've even started. So I'm thinking of just keeping the printer and putting the rest of it in a corner - a real waste though. |

Yeah, you're right. I'm sure they meant well, and the printer could be a blessing. Don't replace the ink yourself though, cause it's THEIR printer. If you don't want the comptuer, just put it aside. Make it clear at work though that the stuff you produce came off of YOUR OWN computer, and not their computer. I know a fellow (not in Korea) who created a bunch of stuff on his work computer (at HOME) and his work claimed it as intellectual property. |

Never thought of that, I guess when I finally get round to writing the "great korean novel" I'll be sure to make that point clear!
Depending what the "computer at work" situation is, I might just bring it in to school and use it there.
Or, as Horangi mentioned, another 200gigs of HDD space wouldn't go amiss^^ |

yeah, I have a new mac which I use for my real work and my old windows nb serves as a super downloader - now I don't have to tie up my computer when I need to download something - or want to listen to a webstream since the speakers are on the desk and I often take the nb to another room - I just leave the windows nb in there - works great - try it - ! |

If it's a modern one with the little metal button on the front then that won't work. The magnetic key will open it regardless. |
