Yes, there is.
You can find climbing at the top of Horang San (behind Yeodo Elementary School) and on the cliffs at Mosageum Beach. There's also an artificial wall at the Red Cross building, but I haven't been there.
Some Koreans here have a climbing club - you might be able to hook up with them and find more places to go. However, your best bet is to check out www.koreaontherocks.com. It's a climbing site that hooks up a primarily foreigner climbing community in Korea. Really solid people who always welcome new faces. Sign up for the forums and start planning your first climbing trip.
Shame that you're not coming for six more months - my husband and I would have loved to have met local climbers, but we're on our way out of Korea.
If you have any Yeosu or climbing questions, feel free to PM me. |

Unfortunately, we leave on March 2nd. KotR is a great resource, and you can probably put together a climbing trip or two down south. If I were around I'd love to take you on some of my favorite climbs around here, but as it stands I definitely recommend Horangsan and there are some worth doing on Mosageum as well. In fact, if you're into bouldering let me know and I'll tell you about my "secret" bouldering spot on the beach.
45 minutes north of here is 구례 and there's some FANTASTIC sport climbing there -- my favorite in Korea. Everything from 5.8 to 5.12 there, including at least one fantastic 10d. |
