I am just about to start the process of contacting recruiters and sending my CV to them. I know you have to do a lot of research before going about avoiding potential pitfalls. I am wondering if there are any common things that happen to people and how they can be avoided by asking the right questions and making sure of the wording on contracts.

I will be applying for hagwons in the next month and want to make sure I do it right. So what sort of things need to be asked before hand to try and minimilise my chance of getting *bleeped* over?

It's not that bad, just talk to the foreigners that work there before you sign anything. There's a contract posting thread here too.

Make sure you talk to other foreign teachers that work at the school, and make sure the foreign teachers that you talk to, are willing to tell you the negative side as well as the positive. I talked to one school where a foreign teacher was doing all the recruiting and would only talk about how great the school is. Later on when I was really getting interested in the school, I found out that the apartment was a 30 minute commute to the school everyday and the foreign teacher hadn't mentioned this until I specifically asked how far the apartment was.
