Back in the UK, it's pretty impossible for first-time buyers to buy a place to live. The cost of property is just stupidly high now. Partly, this is due to not enough new homes being built.

What's the situation like in Korea? Everywhere I go, I see tall, tall apartment blocks. Where I've been living, there are lots of new ones going up all over the place.

Is Korea better at providing housing for it's people than the UK?

Forget Seoul and Gyeonggi, housing in the provinces is dirt cheap. A nice decent sized apartment in Daegu is maybe 200k USD at the high end.
