I thought I'd take this opportunity to mention a group called Seoul Freecycle, it's a yahoo group dedicated to giving away (or requesting) things for free. The objective is to recycle as much as possible and prevent usable items going into landfill.

The group is located here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seoulfreecycle

Since it's a yahoo group, members give and receive messages regarding items they have or items they're looking for. The group only has 3 simple rules:

    * no buying, selling or bartering (everything must be free)
    * no spamming
    * use OFFERED or WANTED in the subject line

Freecycle is a massive group located in most major cities around the world. If you're interested in helping reduce unwanted waste, or just interested in free stuff, then join up.

Anything at all can be offered or requested, including animals, furniture, sporting goods, usable foods, etc.

The site operates in 'good faith' meaning that you're not just trying to offload junk to others, but are trying to pass on items that are still perfectly useful and might benefit someone else.

The link again: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seoulfreecycle

Cheers

David

Hey, thanks for posting this.

I was a member of the freecycle group back in the city where I went to college. When they're active, you can get some really great things for free... I've seen grand pianos, cars, whole wardrobes, album collections etc go. I've checked out the Seoul group, but it is sadly quiet... with the high turnover of foreign residents here trying to sell their crappy little bookcases and tables for 10,000 won, you'd think the group would flourish Wink

Check it out folks... it would be great if this became really active.

thanks maeil

yes, the group currently has 200 members, but high turn over is problematic.

we're trying to increase the groups size and make it more active ... so all are welcome! Smile

btw, love your cyanide and happiness avatar! Wink

BUMP

I just joined! I'll be moving in two months so stay tuned.

This group is a great idea. I hate putting perfectly functional stuff out on the curb, because I don't know if it's going to be properly used or not.

Thanks Dave!

nothing wrong with that!

i think giving stuff away can also include working out a small, non profit arrangement regarding postage ... just to cover costs.

there's been a huge response to the group so far ... and the action has really picked up.

please consider joining and giving away stuff that you no longer need.

cheers

david

ps. we are very keen to use the thread to help people give away animals ... so if you want to help find homes for unwanted pets, please join up too.
