Someone please help lay this out for me...I'm going to have to do a visa run to fukuoka and I want to make sure I have everything that I need, especially since the restrictions have changed.

1.So since I'm Canadian, if I come to Korea as a tourist visa, I do not need to get anything before I enter the country.....correct? I can stay for at least 90 days right?

2. sealed transcripts? (how many?)

3. diploma and copy?

4. passsport and a copy?

5. passport photos (how many?)

6. do i need a criminal background check??

7. since I previously worked with an E2 visa in Korea, I'm able to attain this from Japan....and first timers cannot make this run now right??

ok well could someone please clearly lay this out for me....or point to a thread where I could find the answers....(i already checked the visa run section and could not find any updated info)

thank you very much!
cheers

To the best of my knowledge it has NOT been done since the new regs came into effect so there are no definitive answers.

to answer what I can:
1. yes, 6 months on a tourist B2 stamp.
2. at least 2 sets of SEALED transcripts.
3. yes, your original at least. Certified/notarized copies would also be a good idea or a university issued duplicate.
4. yes, passport is required and a couple photo copies are a good idea too.
5. 4 for the visa confirmation application, one for the visa application, 2 for your ARC application so a minimum of 7 all together.
6. yes.
7. No-one knows for sure about people with prior E2s and correct for new applicants.

true about prior E2s, but if we can't do a visa run (with all the requisite documents) then there would be no distinction between new and prior E2 visa applicants. course, this is logical but out of step with the way things are done here... Laughing should be doable

To the OP. Did you have an E2 before? The reason I am asking is that I thought you would have to return home for an interview.

PostPosted: Tue Feb 26, 2008 9:36 pm    Post subject: I'm Going to Fukuoka Tomorrow Reply with quote

Hello, I have my visa registration/confirmation number from Daegu immigration and will be going to Fukuoka tomorrow. I will have 2 photos and something called an Application Form from the Ministry of Justice that is for the purpose of 1. Alien Registration 2. Alteration or Addition of Employment Place and 3. Alteration of Residence.

My situation may be slightly unique (as all of us probably are at this stage). My problem was not turning in my alien reg card when I left back in December. I wasn't asked for it because I had 5 months left on my visa, and that's because my last contract was only 7 months long. Anyway, it confused immigration and they told my employer I didn't need to re-apply. Long story short, when I went to immigration yesterday (Feb. 26) I was told I had to turn in my card when I left the country (for Fukuoka), get a new visa and come back to immigration for my new alien reg card.

I tried to do it all in Canada but my new employer was completely unclear about new regs so that didn't work out.

I will post results upon my return.

I would advise anyone unsure and unable to get straight info from your employer to go to the immigration office yourself, preferably with your employer or a Korean friend. I was lucky that I had employer's assistant with me AND the immigration guy spoke perfect English.
