| Does anyone have any opinions on how long they think the new E2 visa guidelines will be around? Is this forever or do you think the hysteria will die down after a while and the regs will be relaxed? It seems that they are reducing their supply of teachers by being so anal about documents, requirements, apostilles, etc. It's funny(actually ironic) that I know someone who is in S. Korea right now who has a pretty nasty criminal background and he went over before the regs were in place. He is going to go somewhere else after his contract is up , so he doesn't have to get the background check. The new regs seem like a backlash against the douchebag who was molesting children in Thailand. This whole situation seems ridiculous. ....any thoughts? |

I suspect they'll remain. Some of my friends reckon they'll rollover on them, but not anytime soon. They believe their school will be continually looking for new teachers and never get em, esp in an small city.
Thing is, these regs are nothing new really and are similar to what is needed to teach in Thailand, something maybe the Koreans borrowed, and is definately a knee jerk reaction to save face of somethng so publicly damaging.
And yes u are right people will probably goto japan, china or tiawan merely because of the hassle and farce of getting all there required doc, and maybe not because they have a dubious criminal record.
but we'll have to see how pragmatic president lee really is with the 23,000 figure. |

| My guess is that the regs will be relaxed within three years. |
