As anybody else noticed a marked drop in the standard of food and drink recently at the Wolfhound pub in Itaewon?
Their chips/fries used to be great but the last few times I've had them they were just a soggy mess.
Their beef and mushroom was stodge, the fish was over cooked and the beer tasted like the lines haven't been cleaned in months.
I really hope they get their 5hit together because it is actually not a bad pub for a pint and a bite to eat. |

I don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the food. The food has been fine during the past few weeks that i've eaten it.
With the beers i agree- I have had a few bad beers there so the taps could use a cleaning. When i informed the staff they fetched me a free beer.

Yes I have, as a matter of fact. It wouldn't have been nearly so bad had it just been me finding this out. But based on half a dozen previously very pleasant meals, I had been recommending their food to two friends, who were both there trying it out for the first time when I discovered the unmistakable, and quite sudden, decline in quality.
It was one of those damned annoying situations where your friends are trying to be polite and forgiving (all the while thinking you have piss-poor standards), and you're there insisting up and down that "The food was MUCH better before, I swear it was! Otherwise I'd never have dragged you over to this place!" They gave the 'hound one more try after that, and it was mediocre at best, despite ordering different items. Now they're not interested in going back, and based on their experiences I really can't blame them.
Goddamn Wolfhound, I really liked their food! Considered it the best in that category for Itaewon.

Yep, yep, yep -- exactly. You and my group ordered much the same things foodwise. As for the beer, I don't know if it was dirty pipes, but the Erdinger tasted amost undrinkably peculiar. Though that was a month or so ago, back when the food would have made up for it.
Also, lateness. Bloody hell were they slow with their breakfasts (despite very few customers) last Sunday. And that too was very sub-par. The Wolfhound is 0 for 3 this month. (0 for 12 if you count individual meals.) I cut places serving Western fare in Itaewon -- hell, in Korea -- more slack than anyone I know when it comes to promptness, service, authenticity and taste. Cuz I've been here when there was NOTHING.
So for me the Wolfhound was a very nice find indeed at the start, well above the rest. Lately though... don't know if it's just one rotten cook or a combination of one rotten cook and a waitstaff that doesn't know up from down quality-wise, but there's just no more consistency. Pity, because the management clearly knows how to do it right.

I sure hope so too. I hope it's just one lousy cook and they'll replace them. They'd better do it soon.

Wolfhound has probably the best beer in Korea. Period. Tell me
another place that has Killkenny. Killkenny is a world class beer.
The mere fact that it is available in a primitive dump like
Korea is truly amazing. Korea must be moving up, albeit very
slowly and only in Seoul.
Also, it is very hard to get Koreans to master western cooking.
And I have to admit, the gravy tasted like it came from a big
Costco drum.
But the Killkenny...
And the sun coming in th upstairs windows in the afternoon is
nice. I thought Koreans covered windows with plastic first thing? |

| yes we ate in there a few times lately and we all agreed that the food has been bad. Also the beer tastes like buttermilk (we switched to mixed drinks). The new sound system upstairs has a mega problem-the sound is muffled and it just sounds like racket |

I'm usually a huge fan of the Wolfhound, but the food has definitely declined in quality (Fries now almost inedible - soggy, greasy mess).
I can also second the Erdinger comment - very poor.
And the music seems to be slipping also (in particular on Xmas Eve, when they choose to play some weird techno/house/trance crap instead of something at least a little festive).
It is a good pub and a few problems are easily forgiveable, but they definitely have dropped the ball lately. Let's hope they pick it up again rapidly. I'd really hate to have to stop going there. |

Is the owner super-protective of his waitresses? I was in there once killing time, drinking a couple beers and it was almost empty. The new waitress was chatty with me, like a bartender should be in a Western-pub, and no one needed her help. The owner called her over across the bar after a couple, said something to her, and the waitress sat down next to the register doing nothing.
And no, I wasn't being sleazy, I don't look sleazy (or didn't that day) and was sipping beer and reading a magazine I brought in before talking with her. |

a couple of months ago I ordered the chips and a coffee. there coffee always tastes a lttle strange. anyway the chips were this huge mountain of wedges with a garlicky sauce. i spent half the night throwing up. 2 weeks ago i went with my girlfriend and ordered 2 lamb hotpots. 30 minutes later they brought out only 1. we weren't impressed but told them to not worry about the other one. the meal was ultra peppery and by far not worth the cost. 30 minutes later they brought out the 2nd one just as we we finished eating the first!
these days i stick to Hollywood Bar and Grill above Kraze Burger. far better beer selection, better service and better food. |

| The fries at this place are the worst I've ever had in my life. They taste like sweet potatoes dipped in molasses served with ketchup. Yuck. |
