What's a BC card, as opposed to a credit card. I just got a bank card that says it's a check card and a BC card. Is there anything I can't do with this card that I could do with a credit card? From what I read most credit cards in Korea have to be paid off monthly, so the only advantage seems to be able to use my next paycheck before I get it; Having a credit limit higher than my monthly paycheck doesn't seem to be of any use. |

A BC card is debit card. Think Maestro/Visa Electron, they only difference between a BC card and a ViSA electron/Maestro is that it cant be used out of Korea.
Credit cards are useful for shopping online (almost impossible because korean sites dont accept the alien reg no's of foriegners), getting a cellphone contract and of course as you mentioned; spending next month's paycheque before you get it. |

BC Card is a Card Services company that offers both debit AND credit cards. Had a Nonghyeop Check Card, now I have the BC Mastercard. Check card debits from your account the next day. It let's you use a card at the grocery store, and slowly accumulates points, but that's about it. Also, it's not international
However, the mastercard I have has a 600만 limit, and you set the monthly payment day (takes it all up to the max balance in your checking account).
Up to $3000USD withdrawals worldwide on the Mastercard part, and also lets you access your checking account (tested this all over SEAsia)
Even better, they work as T-Money, and give you discounts when you use it at certain 'western' restaurants.
In short, if your bank gave you a BC check card I'd consider asking for the Mastercard, it's much more versatile. |

Ixnay on the BC card thing; I just got one recently and requested that it be international.
I put it to the test; 3/5 times it worked. Never tried to get cash from it. |

I have a Visa card that I brought with me from the States. I've used it succcessfully in Korea. Will I be able to use that card to make online purchases (without a KSSN)? |

30000 won a year gets you a Mastercard Platinum, which is great for traveling abroad. |

I still don't know how to redeem points on my BC Cashbag card from Nonghyup Bank. Anyone have experience with this? I've got points and more points that I'm sitting on. |
