|
|
**I've read several posts where folks said it was easy, they did it, no fingerprints needed. I phoned San Fran police where I last lived, they don't do CBC. Must be done through FBI or CA. Dept. of Justice..and fingerprints are needed for both ways.
Process for obtaining a California background check for visa purposes. Read below for details, in short you need:
1. Get fingerprints done in korea
2. Send to CA. Dept. of Justice with $32.00 and a letter stating why a CBC is needed.
3. The letter you receive from them should contain an original signature and the embossed seal of the Office of the California Attorney General. These items will certify the document and enable the Secretary of State to authenticate the document.
4. They send it back to you.
5. You send it to CA Sect. of State for an Apostille with $20.00 information is at:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/notary_authentication.htm
6. They send it back to you
* Time frame 1-8 weeks for CBC, check Apostille website for their time frame.
VISA/IMMIGRATION CLEARANCE
California Penal Code Section 11105(c)( enables an individual to request a record clearance from the Department of Justice for visa/immigration and foreign adoption purposes. The following items are necessary to insure the processing of your request. Failure to follow these procedures may result in the delay or rejection of your clearance.
Please submit the following:
1. A COMPLETED FINGERPRINT CARD - Form "FD258"
Be sure the card is completed with your full name, date and place of birth, physical description (sex, weight, eyes, hair), drivers license number, social security number, and return mailing address.
Fingerprinting is usually available from your local police or sheriff's department, or from private vendors engaged in the fingerprinting business. If you reside in California, and a private vendor is used, they must be certified by the California Department of Justice, and the fingerprint card must contain the certificate number.
2. A MONEY ORDER, CERTIFIED, CASHIER'S CHECK, or PERSONAL CHECK (DRAWN ON A U.S. BANK), MADE PAYABLE TO THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
The fee for each person for which a background check is requested is $32. If the money order or certified check is from a non U.S. bank, the funds must be in U.S. dollars.
3. A COPY OF THE LETTER YOU RECEIVED ADVISING YOU THAT A RECORD CLEARANCE WAS NECESSARY
If you do not have such a letter, prepare one yourself clearly stating that a record clearance is needed and the reason why. Be sure to specify if the clearance is needed for foreign adoption purposes.
Mail the above three items to: DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
Record Review Unit
P.O.BOX 903417
Sacramento, CA 94203-4170
Replies will be mailed to the applicant. It is the applicants responsibility to forward the response to an assistance agency or law office. We do not provide clearances for anyone under the age of 14, and we do not mail directly to foreign consulates or embassies, or the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services. |

Hey, I appreciate the information.
(I'd PM you but not enough posts).
Anyway, I had 2 questions.
Where did you get your fingerprints done in Korea?
Did you have to get special form sent from CA for fingerprints, or did the Koreans have something similar?
Again, thanks for the advice! |
