I'm moving to Seoul next week and need a realtor. I've got one number, but I'm just checking. I get a 10 million Won deposit and 400,000/month. The one guy I talked to said that he couldn't find me anything for 400,000 and said that it would be more like 550,000 and that high-rise officetels are in the 600,000 range. This of course won't be furnished, but will have a washing machine and an air conditioner. From what he said, I guessed that the cheaper 550,000 ones that are similar to officetel apartments are in smaller buildings.

It totally depends what part of town you're living in, even what neighborhood. Why don't you just walk into any of the plentiful realty offices in the area you plan to live? You only need rudimentary Korea to tell them what you want (wool-sae-bang). This is the best way to find a place.

Do NOT use the guy from www.nearsubway.com. Not only will he have nothing in your price range, but his website is deceptive and he's a sneaky, underhanded guy. Then again, what businesspeople in this country aren't...

When I was looking for my new place with 30 mil. key money and up to 900,000/month, the guy from nearsubway told me I would only find a 2-bedroom place in itaewon for that price. I knew he was bullshitting me because I had already seen plenty in other neighborhoods before I called him. I ended up with a 2-bedroom place with a balcony, full options, and a great view for less than 800,000 in Sinchon.

www.edenrealty.com isn't a bad place to start if you're looking in Itaewon, but you should definitely shop around.

Good luck.

Thanks. I'm definitely going to shop around. I'm staying at a hotel at first.

And thanks also for the heads up...
