The good thing is that you don't have to go to the RCMP if you live in Ontario or Quebec. You can get one in a week or so with the OPP/QPP.
If you live somewhere else, go to the local detachment or city police and very nicely beg for help to get it done quicker than what I have been reading about here in Dave's.
However, remember to ask for "Vulnerable screening" and a "Pardoned Sexual Offender Data Base" check.
I didn't do that the first time because no one mentioned it to me and drove all the way to T.O. and after I found the consulate, turned right around and went home. They wouldn't take it.
Now, here was the extremely frustrating part. The police will not do this check unless they get a letter from your school asking for the above checks, stamping (with their seal) and signing the request form. I ask the Korean consulate to give me a letter and they said no way...even though it's the government that needs this. I tried to contact my school but I am dealing with people you do not understand English or the new rules.
So, I called the local OPP office again and begged for help. The nice lady said, "Go to the nearby elementary school and ask the principal to fill this out and write the letter". I did, explained the situation, gave them $25 bucks for their time and they wrote a letter stating that I was going to volunteer at the school. Handed the paper with the stamp, signature and letter and the nice OPP receptionist pushed it through and within 24 hours it was done. Lucky but I will never do this again.
I'm alright with the checks, just the Korean consulate rules that I'm not happy with. So bascially, for every job you apply for that requests this, the school must send you a letter for the checks. I thinks the consulate should just have a form letter and send that to you when you request the background check. But, alas, that is too easy and they wouldn't want to be seen as rocking the boat I guess.
Good luck. |

I just read the Canadian background check thread, which I guess you should have done, that you might not have to get a letter and stamp from your school. Wow, they were lucky. I called the consulate yesterday and OPP this morning and they refused to give me the VS or PSODB check unless ask for by an employer.
I guess every situation is different and everyone you talk to tells a different story.
Again, good luck. |
