Can you recommend some materials for useing with a touchscreen computer. Our school has just got one installed and it looks great but we have no real materials to use with it. I'm learning how to use powerpoint but I'm looking for CD games and interactive stuff for Elementary students grade 1-6. So all levels.
Any recomendations would be great.
Cheers. |

You'll find lots of flash stuff which works on the touchscreen at EFL Classroom 2.0. We have a large directory of stories and games in flash. You might also try the ppt games to play. Top 5 is the biggest hit and I still get emails from all over the place about the game.....
Hit stories or games tabs or go to resources.

Basically, I've got classes with between 34-40 students. If I ask them to volunter no one will. If if choose a number, say 23, student number 23 stands up and answers teh question.
I need something to add a random element to the class that also will get their attention and turn it into a bit of fun.
Any ideas? |

My school has an 'electronic board.' It's a large projector screen which allows you to touch it to simulate mouse clicks. If this is similar to what you have, here's what I've used it for.
Paint. The software package for the board comes with a paint application. I have used this for a 'Win, Lose, or Draw' style game.
Annotation. The software package also comes with an annotation applications. It allows one to annotate presentations (i.e., PowerPoint/OpenOffice). It could be used to have a series of sentences with blanks. The students could then come up and write in the answers.
Google Earth. I can control this application through the interface, and it comes with a huge 'wow factor' when you zoom in on the school. I showed the students my house in my country. We used it for a travel lesson, but it could just as well be used for geography, political, directions, etc.
Future ideas. I have a little knowledge with the OpenOffice scripting environment. So, I have been playing around with developing 'click-based' games. This could be something like random 'cards' with words which must be dragged around to make the correct sentence, etc. Though, I am not sure if this is possible with OpenOffice. I might have to learn Flash. Or, a 'falling letter' game where they have the spell the chosen word by dragging the letters. Granted, these ideas might be out of reach for less tech savvy teachers. (I was a web designer/developer before coming to Korea.)
I do have some concerns. First, the interface is 'single touch,' so interaction is basically limited to one student at a time. (Dear Jeffery Han, Please implement your multi-touch screens in educational environments!) Secondly, I have a tendency to use technology for the wow factor and the sake of using technology. So, I have to be careful to make sure its relevant to my lesson, and helping to accomplishing my outcomes. And lastly, the time factor eats at me. I have so many ideas, but no where near enough time to develop them all. |

What I linked to above will do that. Just pull (click) the lever. Assign numbers to groups of students and then watch their eyes pop as the numbers swirl. Also good for practicing large numbers.

One thing that works for me is to have numbers in a bag on little strips of paper, choose the first one, then have that "victim" choose the next one and so on.
You could also go here:

Then zoom in on the screen by holding the "Ctrl" key and pressing the "+" key until it fills the screen. Hmm...I might try that next week! |
