Is it cheaper to buy a computer in Korea than in the US?

YES. get a korean one built for you (bring a korean friend to bargain) and it can be dirt cheap. 3 years ago i neeed purely an internet machine and had a pirate version of windows xp, so my k-gal got me a very basic, but fast desktop with an old-school tube monitor for 190,000W including delivery. it worked like a charm for the next 6 months and then i sold it for 400,000W when i left.
i also had to get the sound card replaced one time, and the guys at this little computer repair shop in the next building over installed a used one for 8,000W total. hilariously cheap at times. |

| This should really be in the tech forum. But anyway, desktops are either the same or cheaper than back home. Laptops though and I'm guessing Macs too are more expensive. |

| I went to Lotte Mart and paid cash for mine. Including Lotte points, cash discount and the sale I was given 40% off. That's the key in Korea, making a good deal. |

Generally speaking, these guys are wrong. If you get a deal in Korea and you go to best buy in the states and get ripped off, of course it's cheaper. However,
the cheapest prices in Korea are higher than the cheapest prices in the states
(Use pricewatch.com and google product search. If that's too much work just shop at newegg.com.) |

| Korean laptops usually cost twice as much as American laptops that have the same specs. |

| I have no idea of American prices (I'm a kiwi) but I got my Korean pal to assist me in buying a laptop online just 6 months ago. It's an Anynote laptop, 14" screen, 100 G hard drive, 1.6 Ghz Celeron processor, 1 G of Ram, wireless capability, can connect to my TV with a cheap external cable etc. Paid just over W500,000. I got my friend to fix me up with English XP and Windows too. So, if you have a Korean pal to do the talking you can get an okay deal. |
