Iran has had nuclear capabilities for quite a while. Their rhetoric seems to have indicated that they've wanted to "get rid of Israel". If they so desperately want that, why hasn't it happened?

Well I'm no international professional but from what I've heard and read, they dislike the country of Israel, not the people...sure it's a 'democracy' so they reap waht they sow or however that saying goes but wanting a nation to disappear is different from wanting a population to disappear. also, I'm no nuclear physicist but having nuclear knowledge isnt' enough, it still takes time to go from capabilities to actual ejection or whatever the term is.

Iran has had a nucler power program for a while. That doesn't mean they've had nuclear weapons capabilites. Anyway, Here is a good read on their program.

Iran is several years away from being able to nuke Israel. The Germans, French, British and Americans are all maneuvering to keep it that way. Even should they get the bomb, it would take time for them to catch up with Israel, who is commonly thought to have a stockpile of their own.

If they had nuclear weapons, they would be fools to openly attack Israel with them, as much of the world would unite to wipe Iran off the map. Its more likely they would hire a third party group to covertly do the job. They'd have to do well hiding their connection and evidence, but even then, everyone would suspect Iran anyways. For that reason, I don't see it happening, whether or not Iran develops nukes.

Israel is believed to have nuclear weapons, they have never officially admitted to this, and there has never been proof of a nuclear weapon being tested by Israel.

There was however an event in the Indian ocean quite few years back that was attributed to a joint test by South Africa and Israel of a nuclear weapon.

Now, after the fall of the Apartheid government in Pretoria it was discovered that South Africa had never reached a weapons stage in it's nuclear program.

In the end the event in question may well have been a meteor.
