| This is a warning to all those of you thinking of getting your E2 in Beijing or even China. I am in Beijing now and went to the consulate today after calling them last week to make sure I would be able to get the E2 there. After they assured me that I will be able to get it there with a three day turnaround I turned up today with all the correct paperwork only to be told it was impossible for me to get an E2 visa in China (not sure about Hong Kong) as I do not have a Chinese Z or X visa (working or student visa). I made some calls to the other consulates who also assured me that they can process my visa too but when I told them I did not have a Chinese Z or X visa and that might be a problem they said wait a moment than came back and said no can do. So its off to Osaka first thing in the morning. |

That sucks.
Good luck. Hope it's not a holiday in Japan! (no reason to think it is... just saying). |

| China is a lousy country. Everything takes forever. Or they'll tell you they can do it and don't worry only to find out they can't because suddenly the rules have changed. Hong Kong would've been a better "China" option! |

| Scamps, I gave HK a call as well and they said could not do it there as I do not have a current E2 visa...go figure. Finished in Osaka now visa in hand. Gave it to them at 3pm pick up next day between 9 and 11.30 no problem |

The Chinese have an embassy in Qingdao, Pugwall?
Seriously though, if a person did any research into (or had any experience) dealing with Korean Embassies/Consulates/Immigration a clusterf**k like this would not be that surprising. Contradictory information from different embassies/personnel is not unusual. Showing up with what you were told to bring by one official to find out that the person you see wants something else isn't uncommon.
One of the headaches you have to put up with if you want to work in the Land of the All Day Confusion, Hightop.
Speaking of confusion

Hightop was talking about the KOREAN Embassy in China, right? Or did I read that wrong? Why then start slagging the Chinese for the inefficiency and incompetentcy of the Korean Embassy in Beijing? |
