I called NPS and they said that they can only check how many employees my company has and how much they are paying IF I give them the company's business registration number. I don't have that. I have no idea how to get it. they aren't taking enough out for taxes, but I feel that if I ask them why, they'll just start pocketing more money. NPS said they could call my employer, but they're already pissed that I called pension on their asses.

Overcharging for maintenance fee, not paying into pension... i'm thinking taxes are going into their pocket too. talking to them won't help, since pension talked to them and nothing happened, so i'm guessing NPS calling won't help either.

WTF can I do?

That is quite untrue.

I pay pension on the name of the teacher, not as a hagwon.

But yes, you will need the business number.

Also, your hagwon should receive papers with your name on it indicating how much has already been paid. Ask them to show these

But it is in Korean.

The paper looks a bit yellowish, with a purple greenish border

Have you considered taking a trip to immigration. Your boss has to submit his business license to get your visa. I would expect that immigration keeps this information in your file. It is easy enough to explain to the immigration guy why you need it. If they don't have it and you get a nice officer, they might be willing to call you boss and ask for it without telling him you want it. Perhaps explain nicely that you want to check with the tax office without upsetting your boss unnecessarily.

When I called them all they asked for was my ARC number. But they found no record of me, so maybe they really need more than that. Smile

It may be an unlicensed hagwon.

Start at the tax office. Everything else is tied into the tax office. Take your ARC, contract, pay stubs, and passport to the tax office and ask them if they have any record of you. If not, let them know the name of your workplace, address, and the phone number.

BTW, Korean government employees can't tell you much info by phone, and they can only answer specific questions about you.

You can still go to the tax office without a payslip. Just bring your contract and bankbook to show them how much you make.

I'm dealing with this situation now as well. After our company was sold and some issues came up with insurance not being paid while deductions were made for some months I called the tax office to see if they had been paid.

They only needed my ARC and the name of the company to find that no taxes had been paid on my behalf. I've been working on getting this corrected with some Korean co-workers who have been ripped off as well. Government offices like to be ripped off even less than we do, so I'm hoping for a major comeuppance in the next few days.
