korea is officially denying ALL visas to filippino nationals.

the text below was in a philippine newspaper:

Quote:
Suspension of visa issuances stays -- South Korean envoy Consul not optimistic about response from BI By Veronica Uy. MANILA, Philippines -- The South Korean embassy here will continue to suspend the issuance of visas to Filipino) bound for that country, Consul General Hong Sung Mog said Wednesday. While he is scheduled to meet with Immigration commissioner Marcelino Libanan, Hong told in a phone interview he is not optimistic about getting a positive signal on the complaints by Korean businessman about extortion allegedly committed some immigration officials I plan to lift the suspension either today or tomorrow, but I have to get a positive signal from the Philippine government. So far, I am not optimistic about it, he said. Earlier, Libanan, responding to the Koreans complaints, said the real issue was not extortion but his agencys campaign against Korean nationals illegally engaged in business here, especially the retail trade. Asked when exactly he thought the suspension would be lifted, Hong said: I will have to consult with my colleagues. Hong also clarified that he apologized not for the suspension but for embarrassing the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) when he bypassed it and immediately stopped issuing visas without coursing his action through diplomatic channels. Earlier, Senators Manuel Villar and Manuel Roxas II urged the South Korean embassy to lift the suspension, saying it was unfair to make the Filipinos bear the brunt of the alleged extortion. In a statement, Roxas said the embassy should spare innocent from what appears to be just a slight misunderstanding. Good neighbors need not resort to such tactics. While expressing respect for South Koreas sovereign right to grant or deny visas, Roxas lamented that the desire of to go abroad is being used as leverage to hasten government action against the alleged extortion activities of a few faceless and nameless immigration agents. He said the embassys action demeans the friendship between the two countries. In a separate statement, Villar said: We look forward to the immediate lifting of this suspension order by the Korean embassy in the interest of fairness and to allow our workers to start work abroad. While calling the embassys action most unfair to the innocent [who] bear the brunt of the brazenness of immigration misfits who have victimized a number of Korean nationals, Villar also urged the immigration bureau to address the matter. Both senators, who are said to have their eye on the presidency in the 2010 elections, lauded the DFA for its prompt action in response to the South Korean embassys suspension.

if america were denying visas to koreans, then korea would be protesting and furious that westerners are racist ... but it's a completely different story when the koreans are dishing it out.

filippinos are being denied visas because korean businessmen were accused of corruption. what have the filppinos done wrong exactly??

edit: it's not from the govt directly, it was in a local newspaper.

A couple others spotted lately:

- SK sent back some NK who were promptly executed. Geez. I guess it's one thing if the taliban are doing it but a whole other matter if Koreans are doing it.

- NK won't let SK plays its anthem at a world cup qualifying match in NK. (More shoe is on the other foot in NK.) Anyway, SK has protested, noting it has no problem with allowing the North to play their anthem in SK.

South Koreans think Westerners are lewd for one-night stands and kissing on first dates. Yet, nearly every male has paid for a prostitute at least once in his life.

Aren't we all hippopotamuses sometimes, in one way or another?
