My wife was discussing private teaching with a friend of hers in Busan. They were discussing foreigners specifically. My wife was shocked when my friend told her, "It costs 50,000 to 70,000 per hour to hire a foreigner to teach privately in Busan, and people are having trouble finding them."

Wow... and I thought Busan was supposed to be a more affordable place to live (for Koreans)?

I charge 50,000 and I can't get anyone to call me back. What am I doing wrong?

You're a kyopo? right? i think koreans are willing to pay whites 75000. non-whites go half of that, in the 35k-40 range. I've heard of some kyopos going as low as 20k...

Well, they should get those high rates. Not because of competency or skill which surely varies, but because of risk. After all, what is the proper risk differential for possibly spending a year in jail for illegal teaching?

I've heard conditions in prison can get better for you though if you're willing to give the guards some free English lessons.

But, hey. That's illegal too. So, if you get caught giving the guards free lessons is that another year added on each time you get caught?

Sparkling. Very Happy Laughing Very Happy
