Thanks to the hard work of Sargx, a new website has been created to allow instructors to post comments regarding Agents, Recruiters, Hagwons, and Public Schools. Please read the Disclaimer and Posting Rules, before registering and beginning posts. This is a golden opportunity for instructors to warn and discuss with other instructors in South Korea regarding working conditions and issues for Agents/Recruiters/Hagwons and Public Schools.

Please make sure to post your claims in a factual, organized fashion. The objective is not to rant about negative experiences, but to educate others regarding possible pitfalls in working in South Korea.

Furthermore, volunteers are needed to help monitor and update the website with information. Please invest the time and be productive in improving the conditions of instructors in South Korea. If we are constructive, instead of complacent and non-involved we can improve our quality of life here.

We look forward to your comments and posts.

To be honest, I am quite disappointed in the absence of responses and posts regarding the good/bad list for agents, recruiters, hagwons, and public schools. It seems individuals are quite willing to complain and vent on this website, however are unwilling to take any productive action in trying to prevent others from experiencing negative experiences at the same institution. I truly hope that this is not the case, otherwise, the hard work and effort of Sargx and others will be in vain. Furthermore, it truly demeans the solidarity and commitment of instructors in Korea, and allows the complacency and manipulation of foreigners to continue.

It appears as many valued expats members are beginning to leave this website due to a lack of recogniton and productive involvement of other members. Once again, I emplore you to be proactive and turn the negativity into productive ways of informing others.

I noticed you had posted about agents using the documents of F visa holders illegally to "pass off" illegals they have employed?

I was wondering how you found this out, and which specific agency/agencies were involved?

It looks like it's time to start reporting every temp agent to immigration.

Why don't you put up links on the site to info on reporting illegal activity to Korean immigration, and names of these agencies, so we can all just file multiple complaints against them.

They are all technically in violation of the law anyway, they all need to be shut down permanently, and force the businesses to direct hire legal workers. Companies can sponsor E7s for any one not holding an F class visa for these types of jobs.

These temp/pimp agenices are the scourge of the ESL industry, and need to be eliminated permanently.

Whenever I visit a link and I see "this page is under construction" I leave.

Under construction on a web page signifies that the page is amateur at best and a temporary page by someones dad at worse.

Also, you have graphics of chainsaws, chuck norris with pistols, governor swarzenager, asian high school girls girls in skirts and a walrus on your main page. The site is supposed to attract english teachers, right?

The site you designed for your audience is comparable to a Korean commercial trying to use English to attract an English audience.

Basically your grasp of web design is on par with korea's grasp of English.....

Good idea, poor execution

I agree with the above poster. Good idea, poor execution. The design of the site is at least brutal. It is barely legible. I am not able to PM anyone as I have not reached the 25 posts limit. I did PM sargx two weeks ago to offer my help and this was ignored. Ah well good luck with the site folks.

I third the opinion about the website's design - additionally the fonts show up extremely small - I'm on a mac don't know if it makes any difference but it shouldn't if the design kept in mind all kinds of systems Shocked

get back to us when you have the kinks worked out, ok? Wink

Mi Yu Mi:

Definetly, however, this is an anonymous website with anonymous users. Therefore, one should provide factual basic information (based on their own perspective and opinions).

Netz:

The site has names of agents and recruiters which have complaints filed against them. As for proving the illegal activity of agents and recruiters, that is a whole other kettle of fish.

PGF, Livininseoul, Moosehead:

This website was recently created by Sargx on a very limited budgetary scale. There are no endorsements, advertisements, sponsors, or additional means to finance this endeavour. The "page is under construction" means it is being revised and updated, not that it is unaccessable or that posting or reading comments is not possible.

Personally, I do not really care about the aesthetics of the website and which icons or visuals are represented. If someone is willing to invest time in creating and maintaining a website for FREE, allowing others to post information that may be beneficial to everyone, they should be able to create a web design to their own liking. On the other hand, I am sure that Sargx will take your suggestions under consideration and possibly adjust things accordingly.

Regardless, please recognize that this is a non-profit enterprise designed to help instructors in South Korea be aware of the pitfalls of engaging in employment with some agents and institutions. I think it is time that we move from expressing our negative experiences in a non-productive way, towards a system that improves our quality of life and increases informed choices.

Once again, I emplore everyone to invest isome time in registering and posting comments and issues on the website. Eventually, the minor wrinkles on the website will get ironed out.

Actually Justin posted the site before it was live, hence why it had an "unprofessional" layout. It was a design for another site altogether. The site still doesn't have a lot of content, so I'm working on that in the background, it'll take awhile to get up, so be patient.

As for libel, webmasters can't be held accountable for defamation or libel. An example for this ruling in the US courts (where the server is hosted) is DiMeo vs. tucker max.

Anyway, if you want to lend a hand, send me a PM.[/url]

Sargx:

My bad. I was under the impression that people wanted to start posting comments, not realizing that the design set up and aesthetics were crucial for some users.
