Hello,

Hoping someone can answer a few questions I have concerning the Chicago Consulate General, please.

1 - Can I FedEx my passport/visa from there to my residence? Do they have FedEx envelopes and pick-up there? If so, can I just use a credit card since I do not have a FedEx account? Has anyone done this and can explain the process?

2 - My interview is tomorrow morning and my flight leaves Tuesday morning at 6:55 AM (I have to be there a few hours early though). Would my passport/visa, if FedExed, arrive by Monday in time for me to make my flight?

3 - I was informed by the Chicago Consulate all I need to bring with me is a copy of my degree or my transcripts, a passport size photo, and the Visa application. Is this correct?

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

  1. Not sure about FedEx, I think they prefer to use USPS Express Mail. I'm pretty sure they have envelopes and labels there (though I brought my own), and you can give them the money ($14.50) for the postage, as they have Express Mail stamps on hand.
  2. I interviewed on Wednesday morning, and they put my passport in the mail late Thursday afternoon. I received it Saturday morning. You'll likely be okay for your Tuesday morning departure. (You might want to mention your departure date/time though.)
  3. Yes, that's all you need. They'll have you fill out the "Consul's Checklist for E-2 Applicant" when you get there. I suggest arriving 15-20 minutes before your interview appointment to allow time to complete this form and the Express Mail label. As an alternative, you could find a copy of the form online and fill it out before you get there to save time.
Good luck!
