| Any foreign teachers here who would like to get together with me? I just moved here and know absolutely nobody. Would love to meet some people for sharing a meal, movie (oh, wait, there isn't a theater here, I think!), etc. My friends are all in Changwon and Ulsan. Even though I can get on a bus to see them, it would still be nice to meet some new folks. PM or email me at elliemk at mindspring dot com. Thanks! |

| Hey, isn't that where Kentucker lives? He'll be your Huckleberry. But don't go out drinking with him. You wouldn't believe the kind of trouble that boy can get himself into. |

I recommend going to Itaewan! That's where we crackers are. Get "assoverteakettle hammered" and you'll be surprised at how many new friends you'll win.... not to mention free shags |

| Thanks for the replies. I will hang out with locals as soon as I meet some! I did actually meet a man the other night who will help me learn Korean. Hopefully I'll meet more people soon. |

That's a massive trek just for a night out!

Elliemk, it's got a population of 220 000. That's huge. Must be at least 80 native teachers there. Maybe you could check with your co-teacher, get them to call the office of education and get the email addresses of the other PS teachers (who probably don't post on Dave's) and meet up that way. Good Luck! |

Ellie,
There's a big university there with at least 40 foreign teachers. I met a few, and they were pretty cool. I live near there, but I'm not going. I've decided to live a reclusive life, staying far away from locals and Korean food. Things have looked up since I've done so.

I lived in yangsan so many moons ago. Are you teaching at the BCM there?
If so, pm me.
I found about 6 foreigners who lived there. Many Fs who work in yangsan live in busan. It must be nice with the subway though hey? And it's one bus from downtown Yangsan to PNU (but NEVER EVER EVER use that bathroom. WORST one in Korea my wife and I thought).
If you aren't living downtown and you're more off to the side somewhere (beo-meo, mulgeum, whatever) find a local watering hole. ESP. one with an ajosshi. They tend to be pretty cool about trying to speak english (esp. if they themselves drink). I met a bartender there who worked on freighter lines. He was a GREAT dude and spoke english well enough.
best o luck |

| Hi everyone - thanks for your great replies and pms. I hope to meet some of the people who wrote soon and will check out the university, etc. Appreciate Dave's as a great source of friendly information (with the exception of the trolls, etc., but hey, they make life interesting!) |
