My recruiter for the GEPIK school to which I am transferring my E2 visa told me that a criminal background check from my local police department back home is what I need. This surprised me, because a check like that would only confirm my local history. It wouldn't prove that I hadn't been arrested anywhere else. Does anyone know for sure if this is actually enough to get through the new E2 process? |

There are actually two separate issues here.
If you're transferring before the 15th, you don't need a criminal check for Immigration, only for GEPIK. So if a local check is good enough for them, then you're good to go.
Even if you're transferring after the 15th, however, Korean Immigration is accepting local background checks as long as they're properly authenticated. In other words, they want a clearance letter signed by a police official and further authenticated by apostille. |

A state police check was all I needed. |

In Canada, any police department - be it municipal, provincial or national (RCMP) - can do a country-wide check. |

Only the RCMP will not require you to visit their office. This makes it the most convienient for people who are already here. |
