Kota Kinabalu is an OK city I suppose- I hope you are planning on seeing the REST of Sabah tho as there are MUCH better things to see around there.

As for KK, The BEST part of it is that u are a 10 min boat ride away to some BEAUITFUL islands, the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. I went to Paual Manukan and Palau Sapi, but there are 5 to choose from.

Other than that, there is not a whole lot to do in the city at all. There of course is the waterfront area with some restaurants and "nightlife". Its a cute little area, and at night I think its the (only) place to go. I wouldn't spend more than 3 nights there tho. If you have even a week, I HIGHLY recommend seeing the rest of Sabah.

I stayed at Bornro Backpackers. It was decent enough but I know there are better ones. A friend of mine stayed at Akinabalu and she was happy with it. Both are about a 10-15 min walk to the pier where u get the boats to the islands.

On Sunday, there is the big Gaya street market. That is fun to go to. I dont know if i would plan a trip around it, but it is something to do.

I hear the food in Malaysia is unreal, and that's enough for me to go in that this trip is geared for me and my gal to just veg and clear our minds.

Yeah, we are going in the middle of the busy season, so the deals don't exist for that price. I will already be down there and then my GF is meeting me down there for 4 days. She actually got a decent price on a direct flight. We just booked a hotel on our own. We booked this one:

i went to a korean travel agent online, they are offering a 6 day trip everything included as well as 2/3days of sightseeing and a boat trip included in the price and it was 296,000 plus i think tax of 150k, same hotel too from da end of may.... i cant remember the site, but it is all in korean

Spent 10 days there with my family in December. It was a great family trip (wouldn't be that good for the single in my opinion). My 2 year old had a blast as did my wife and I.

I would read up on hotels and resorts as packages and hotels differ greatly. I stayed at the Shangri-la Tanjung Aru and Rasa Ria. Tanjung Aru was in KK and was very nice. Food was great, ability to get to and from the hotel was great, workers were ok, pool was great, room was great, grounds were ok, beach was not good. The Rasa Ria is out of KK about 30-45 minutes. Food was great, not much to do as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, pool was great, room was average, grounds were awesome, beach was awesome. Overall, the stay at both hotels was awesome, but I prefered the Rasa Ria as the grounds, beach and staff were better. Also, way less Koreans at the Rasa Ria which is something I do consider when I try to get a break from Korea.

The Shangri-la resorts are pretty pricey, but it is easy to see why once you stay there. They are awesome. Also, I would not book a package in Korea. All the hotel/resort websites for KK are in English and you can get way better deals on the websites then from the travel agents here. My wife's friends family did the same trip as us, less one day and paid 1 000 000 won more. Book yourself and you will safe a lot. The hotel sites over good deals on them. I would go with an agent for your airfare and the internet for booking a hotel.

There is a good KK website for information run by a Korean. He is really helpful and will point in the direction of good deals, good eats and where to go for fun.

Go to Naver and search Kim's Club. It is a naver cafe.

The above package doesn't include tax. Tack on between 170,000 to 190,000 won for tax and other fees.

Also don't forget that the cheap deals will go up in price during high season, and oftentimes, the cheap deals is for ONE date and that that date can sell out fast.

Plus, the one by onlinetour.co.kr allows one more night at the hotel.
