|
|
has anyone - does anyone - do this?
I signed up today at Standard Chartered for their internet banking but when I came home and tried to start the setup through the website it's not working - seems there's an ms dos executable file that needs to download on my harddrive but it's no go.
you can't run an msdos exe file on macs can you? (and no i don't use boot camp - that's not going to happen so don't even mention it)
fyi, i'm running a macbook pro, os x.4 tiger
the program from the bank's website is to secure my nb for transactions - jees - i'm hoping i can do this! |

| Korean banking and pretty much all e-commerce in korea rely on activeX. Which is rather stupid since it is easily exploited and so unsafe microsoft didn't use it on Vista. Since activeX doesn't run on macs you can't do online banking in korea with a mac. |

I sort of thought this after all K websites always need IE to work - then today they were trying to hand me a floppy disk with my reg cert on it - I'm like - I have a mac - it's new - no floppy - do you understand? no floppy? they just kept looking at me...
hmmm, yeah, not a financial hub brownie point, more like a financial toilet plunger - great big sucking sound |

My wife keeps her certificate on a USB key.
She uses a PC though. |

Yeah, just think, then I'd have to go to a PC bong to use my internet banking...that's real secure! |

I'm not going to a pc bong - I'll just use my old windows machine I kept - around for all those who are trapped in a time warp and don't yet understand higher technology of the mac |

Unfortunately 90% or more of Korean websites require windows with IE...talk about sucking Microsoft's BIG ONE...I know macs are a minority of computers out there, but they are gaining popularity as people look for something different and NOT microsoft.
I won't run boot camp either. I have a windows machine, but honestly I wish I could exist without ever having to use windows again.
Oh and Spliff...I saw your outstanding offer of 1.2mil on a 2mil macbook pro...does that mean you were just looking to scam a guy and make a quick buck on a resale, or you really want to be a mac owner, just for a lower price? |

| You can use VMWARE or Parallels to run Windows on your mac. |

Har, har, har. You have to run software virtualization to run a windows executable on an Apple. There's no harm, really. However, as you're unwilling to do this, which is your only option -- you will have no success. FYI: both VMWare and Parallels run don't require hard drive partitioning. You merely install it like a regular mac program within OS X. It's a breeze. |

hmmmm, well, I'll think about it -
but it's not that big of a deal not to do internet banking for my K accounts and if that's the only reason, I probably don't need to spend that time and energy and take up the drive space - it just doesn't seem that important, you know? |
